Gonzo: I maybe starting a new round of "Who wants to be a millionear" with the question "Witch Winamp is the all time greatest?" but I would really love you Enhanced Browser for 2.x. And it is just so possible to have.....

Does anybody here have a clue about when the next official release of Winamp 2.9x will be?
Do we have to wait until they have got the freeform plugin ready or will it come sooner?

Right now I using 2.95 from winampheaven becouse it took ages for 2.91 to start on my computer, but it is still something with the feeling of "supported software"...

And, no. I don't know why it took ages for 2.91 to start.

I'd love to be able to do EB for wa2 or 5, but they'll have to give me back the Add-on Manager somehow to do it. Well, I could cheat and do it as a freeform skin, but then it wouldn't...hmm, let's just say we'll see.

I'd use wa2.91 or 2.95 for now, they're honestly the best builds (public or private) right now for regular use. 2.95 isn't official because of licensing issues, not technical, so there's no good reason not to use it. If you have an issue, problem solving is practically the same for either.

Me too, soley for the fact that when I double click in a song in a playlist or query in the ML the whole playlist or query is added to the PL and the selected song played, rather then just the selected song. THANK GOD!

It is at the moment Winamp 2.95 with freeform skin support, and some minor interface tweaks. Who knows what else might be added before release? (valid question - I actually don't )

is there going to be an actual release date prior to release, or do we just check the main page twice a day?

Probably not, it's never happened before . It's usually as much a surprise to us as it is to everyone else.

If they told everyone, then winamp wouldn't just be the only cutting edge player.

And they release things when they are done.

Thats never changed.

Just enjoy what you got now and wait to be rocked even more

I am hoping for integrated burning. The integrated ripping is nice I guess, but I am too parainoid to use anything other then EAC. Integrated burning, however, would be sweet. I nice little burn button in the ML to burn any query or PL....mmmm,delicious. Id pay a couple of bucks for it.

What? Winamp5 will definitely be released . 2.95 probably won't be officially released now, but I'm only speculating.

As for the CD burning plugin - it's not there yet, it may be a premium feature...

There's no reason why you'd want it - if you install Winamp5 without freeform support it is essentially 2.9 anyway.

Maki is an integral part of freeform skins, it can't be removed from them without completely re-doing the skin format, which isn't going to happen. What isn't clear (yet), is whether it will support "standalone" scripts (the add-ons/skin mods manager). So far, there's no interface for it, so there's no way for things like Enhanced Browser or songinfopopup to be added/started/stopped. It shouldn't be hard to add, once the freeform plugin is fully working, but someone has to do it, and I can understand why it is low priority.

Components are not going to be supported, they've been saying that since the announcement that winamp5 is being developed.

I sort of assumed that knowledge. I'm fairly pissed off that Wasabi components are being somewhat discontinued, as you may or may not have guessed. Other than the wa3 skin support (which implies Maki) and the minor interface redesign, there's nothing else changed from Winamp 2.95. So far, anyhow .

Err..isn't the 5 part of the name, (eg, Winamp5 1.01) and not part of the version number? Or is it just Winamp 5.01? 5 is still the work in progress name though, right?

I think its very stupid when there is a number that is not the version number. Easily leads to confusion. Winamp 5 1.01 is just plain stupid.

I love you guys. All of you. Really.

Winamp is a great product. The greatest product of all time. The best thing to grace my computer (except for windows ME :P). I just hope that winamp5 will run on my computer. I feel a bit left out in the cold with winamp3.

I hope that winamp 5 will run with my software-project
like Winamp 2.9 do it.

But I'm looking forward, because if Winamp 5 will completely
support old plugins, it will do !

WINAMP2 4 EVER !!!

Does anybody now where I can find an alpha release of Winamp 5?

I'm pretty sure I'm not supposed to post this but...

You can get it here :P

The alpha isn't supported, and its still buggy. I would wait till the final release.

Winamp 5 better seem new when its released, i mean all new icons and such.
A friend of mine has an alpha of winamp5, and its basically winamp 2.95.
The ONLY reason i dont use winamp2 is because the icons are so horrible.

Huh? I would say its very safe to assume WA5 will be updated.

I think WA3 is just being put on the back burner so they can make it absolutely perfect before they release. They just got sick of people saying "WA3 SUXORS" and stuff.

Me too.
Winamp3 does suxx, but so did Windows 3.11. But noone ever complained becouse the most users didn't know there was something better.

As long as there is something existing someone finds better than something other that other thing will "suxx".

And currently Winamp3 is what they call "far from completed" wich means that nearly everything else you could find RIGHT NOW is better.
But i still wait for the moment of "the return of Winamp3" hopefully coming when Winamp3 not only can show it's potentials but also use them.

Took a look at that "Winamp5" release floating around and I must say that I agree with the opinion that the Icons could do a facelift.
And I still think the should have separate icons for soundfiles and for videofiles.
Hope they fix that before the "official"...
