New Machine for video, can't get settings locked down.

Hey Guys,

Just went out and purchased a new machine today specific for live audio and video streaming. Since installing nsv I've yet to find the right combination. It's driving me nutts. I get fast video then it stops in like 30 seconds.

Machine Specs.
Intel Pentium 4 / 2.54Ghz
512 DDRAM
Windows XP Home(for the mean time)
upgraded to DirectX 9.0

Would you guys be so kind as to recommend some settings for smooth, normal speed, 320x240 video?

One Meg upstream, would like to stay with the 128k up range.

Here are my current settings:
1. Deinterlace Video checked
2. High quality deinterlace
3. Resize to 320x240
4. High quality resize
5. drop/repeat frames to archieve checked / 20.0000fps
6. Bitrate = 128 / Keyframe Bitrate / 56
7. Allow dropped frames checked
8. Quality = 57 Quick Compress checked
9. Auto Keyframe checked
10. Threshhold = 90
11. distance = 8
12. distance = 120

Thanks in advance.

Qwest.

read the post by tom in the streaming in NSV thread there are many explanations about the settings and what you can and cannot do with live streaming.

One of those is using the high quality de-interlace or high quality resize.

Also while it's encoding look at your cpu usage by pressing ctrl+alt+del.

Thanks, I purchased this new machine because I new the cpu was 100% maxed on my other machine, so I am aware of the issues there. I will check to make sure the de-interlace and high quality resize not to being used.

Thanks again,

Qwest

If you're doing live video streaming, I'd recommend setting the quality to 63 so it'll consume less CPU.

CPU usage with this new machine isn't an issue but I thank you for your reply.

Call me retarded but I've yet to find any settings for live video that:

1. won't play fast speed
2. won't stop playing after 40-60 secs.

This shouldn't be that difficult to do especially after reading the nsv thread 20+ times but it is.

I'm asking the pro's again for any assistance with recommended settings (those listed in the nsv thread did not work for us).
The specs of my machine are listed above.

Thanks again, in advance.

hmmm weird, I haven't seen many problems, setup a couple of encoders on 3 different machines in 3 different locations.

the general rule is "Don't use high quality anything"
set your frame rate to 10fps 15fps tops
set your VP3 quality to 57
set your VP3 bitrate to something doable like 112 with keyframe at 32 or so
don't fuck with any other VP3 settings. It's all just tweaking from there.

What sort of capture device are you using?

KXRM,

Thanks for the reply however this post was before I downloaded and installed the nsv package. Wow, so much better and easier. Working flawlessly now.

You can find us in the library (MetroMixRadio.com Studio Cam) under internet tv.
