Tell me if i can stream :-)
Hello
![]() I come to ask for the opinion of .nsv "pro" streamers to tell me if, with my machine, i can stream anything and if so how should i configure it (if you can tell me, of course). ![]() My machine is a PII 400MHz, 128MB RAM, 8MB Matrox G200 graph. board, S3 "something"-vibes sound board (can't remeber now the correct name), 2 HD of 6.4GB each, cable connection (average of 128kbps upload stream) and runs windows 98, possibly going to winME or 2000 or even install Linux Mandrake 9.1 on a 2nd disk. Thanks for all the help possible ![]() Johnny_V |

ooops, sorry, i forgot to tell.
probably i will do both, not at the same time of course, but mainly live video streaming from a webcam and in the future by TV capture. Archived video is an option as well, but if i used it it would only be to show small video clips. I hope i said all this time :-) Thanks Johnny_V |

you will probably need a faster machine then, cause live video encoding is quite hard on a CPU, maybe if you set the frame rate real low and the quality real low, just test it out. Archived stuff would be no problem for your machine as it wouldn't be doing any encoding. As for bandwidth you will definately need more if you want more then 1 person to watch, but you will have to limit to 100kbps on video and audio (which is possible with the right mixture of video and audio encoding settings) so look into getting a server on a bigger line.

you're right! but still, my cable connection is restricted in my country, it was supposed to be 1MB or superior, having >128 upload stream, but the company stuck me, and the others, with speeds of <640kbps (no one has ever reached that or more) and 128upload (this one no one reached as well), and more, we have limited traffic, 1GB international internet traffic and 20 GB national traffic. This is ridiculous!! In my country there are no internet contents that justify 20GB, the maximum anyone has ever reached (in domestic usage) was 10GB!! And 1GB for international, where do they think we users can get software, music, and good quality contents with 1GB!!!! I really hate my cable provider, but there is no other, and i can't have xdsl.
Ohh well... i guess i'll just stick to SHOUTcast audio streams with low encodings, that i know i can do perfectly ![]() Still... my computer can handle video compression, not at high definitions, but in low definitions i know it can, i tried it once, the computer slowed down a little of course, but not so much that makes it useless to be doing something else while video is compressing. So i think the problem is more in the bandwidth than in the computer's speed, even if i had the latest "top-computer" i would still be stuck on the bandwidth. I will not try video stream with this system, but sometime later i will surelly do that. Thanks everyone for the tips and the help you all gave me ![]() Johnny_V |
