Sound distortion w/ FPS

Is there any new information on this issue yet? I've been running a 1.67Ghz processor with a GeForce4 TI4400 for about 6 months, and I have just recently noticed this problem (within the last month or so). I've had the 4x.xx detonator drivers as long as I can remember, and the only thing that I've updated that might have an effect on it is DirectX.

I'm wondering why I've just recently had this problem, and I was wondering if it could have anything to do with a DirectX update? I've been reading Geiss' tech information chat with the Nvidia guy, and it doesn't look as if we are going to get this problem fixed.
