Can't Get Shoutcast To Stream
I've downloaded and installed BOTH the Winamp2 and Winamp 3 versions and have had no trouble in getting either to play either the "demo" or any file or CD. My problem is getting the shoutcast "stream" to open and play(It won't in either version for me...the reason I've tried BOTH) I click on my station selection and the "download file" box opens...but nothing happens. The stream just won't start.
Any clues would really be appreciated. I have no trouble whatsoever streaming to Windows Media. |

a little more info would be helpful
couple of questions you should answer first...
1) is your sever online? 2) how do you have your weblink to the server set up? 3)is your server online? 4) do you have a firewall, need router forwarding, or anything else that may restrict your feed from reaching the public? WKL |

right it sounds like your winamp doesn't have .pls files assosiated with it. so, simply do this:
open winamp 2.9, and press ctrl+p (preferences) then click file types.... click the select all button select register types when winamp starts then click close then close winamp re-open winamp and click this link: http://www.thedigitaldream.co.uk:8000/listen.pls does it play? |

Thanks for all the help....I tried all of the above....but I still get the window that says "File Download" as if the stream is about to start...but it won't... it just keeps throwing the "file" from one side of the screen to the other...nothing else. Any other suggestions would really be appreciated. Thanks !

no streaming and an error message...
hey all, I'm posting my problem here because it's very clost to the problem at the start of the post.
basically, I have winamp3 install'd, and when I click a "tune in" button, I get the "downloading window", but right afterwards, I get a Windows error message: [start error message...] C:\WINDOWS\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\OPQ34HU7\listen[1].xpl Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item. [...end error message] I already clear'd out my internet cache, and I follow'd matt2kjones advice. neither worked. so, any ideas? thanks in advance

.xpl. Real Player is being stupid again. Try these links, most are for Winamp 2.X, but should be helpful:

THE STREAMING AUDIO WON'T STREAM
I apparently have a similar problem as "bbowers66," he posted: "I've downloaded and installed BOTH the Winamp2 and Winamp 3 versions and have had no trouble in getting either to play either the "demo" or any file or CD. My problem is getting the shoutcast "stream" to open and play(It won't in either version for me...the reason I've tried BOTH) I click on my station selection and the "download file" box opens...but nothing happens. The stream just won't start." on 05-16-2003. I had shoutcast working OK and was using it to listen to a linked amateur repeater system I use which is in California (I am sometimes out of range of this system's transmitters since I live in Mexico). I never have downloaded music files. My computer crashed, and when I got it running again, the intro message for the repeater system would play but the live audio from the repeater system wouldn't. The URL for weblink to the server is http://www.shoutcast.com/directory/?...tem&st=gs&l=25 . As far as I know, the server is running. I am running windows XP, and am not using a firewall or router. I use Symantic virus checker. I uninstalled winamp 3 and reinstalled it. The streaming audio wouldn't work. I uninstalled winamp 3 and installed winamp 2.9; it doesn't work either. I emptied my internet cache. There might be something to reset on my PC; but I don't know what it would be. Any suggestions? PATRICK MULLEN Municipio Tijuana, B.C., Mexico |
