Major problem with the DNAS plugin

I've searched through the forums, and found similar problems, thought not quite the same, but no real solution or answer.

I'm having a major problem running the DNAS plugin for winamp the last couple of weeks. Any time I try to switch between inputs Winamp freezes completely. Evening bringing up Task Manager will not allow me to shut down winamp, and it is bad enough that I cannot shut down windows from my Start Menu. I have to do a hard reboot.

If I attempt to close the DNAS plugin from Winamp preferences, I have the same problem. Winamp freezes, does not respond, and I have to do a hard reboot for my computer.

I would greatly appreciate any and all help available on this issue. I love Shoutcast, and really miss being able to DJ.

Thanks in advance,

Jade

What version of Winamp are you using?

Also...your soundcard is what? Do you have the latest drivers for it?

This happened for me and some of my DJ's that were using Windows 2K and Soundblaster cards.

I'm using Winamp version 2.91

My soundcard is an Avance AC'97, and the drivers are up to date.

I checked all of that when I first started having the problem.

As general pc maintenance, have you deleted your temp files lately?

Are you talking about switching between Mic and Line input or the Input device?

I clean out all temp files, etc., defrag, and run disk cleanup at least once a week if not more often. I like to keep my computer running smoothly.

Sorry, thought I had added that too. I'm talking about switching between input devices. From Winamp to Soundcard Input.

K...that indicates to me that there might be a problem somewhere with your card. From what I read, it appears that you have an onboard soundcard. Maybe try reinstalling the drivers? Did you get the drivers from Avance or MS?

I got the drivers directly from Avance. Running diagnostics and checking things out with Troubleshooter hasn't led me to find any problems with the card, and I didn't start having these problems until about two weeks ago. I've been using Shoutcast on my computer since late February, early March.

So...2 weeks ago...something changed on your computer then. Did you update anything at Windows Update? Do you have automatic updates enabled?

Try uninstalling Winamp and the DSP and reinstalling. Something could have become corrupt due to an install/update.

Go through and check your Event Viewer for something happening around 2 weeks ago. Might give you an idea if something happened.

I have automatic updates enabled, but I have already tried uninstalling winamp and the dsp plugin. Nothing has helped so far.

One of the first things I did was uninstall winamp, and the dsp. I've downloaded the most recent updates of both and have since tried reinstalling them a few times. I still have the same problem.

First thing I would do is disable automatic updates.

Second...as I suggested, try checking the Event Viewer for something that might have updated itself. You may have had your audio drivers updated by MS. Might have to uninstall that update and reinstall your Avance drivers.

Check some of the updates in the event viewer to see if it updated your audio drivers. If so...go to the add/remove and take out the driver update. Disable the automatic update first though or you might be back in the same place as before.

Alright, I hate sounding like an idiot, but what do you mean by "Event Viewer?"

No worries.

Start...All Programs...Administrative Tools...Event Viewer.

If you dont have it there..right click on your task bar and go to Properties. Click the Start Menu tab. Click the Customize button. Click the Advanced tab. Scroll down in the Start Menu Items section until you see System Administrative Tools. Check the box for Display on the All Programs menu. Click ok then ok again.

It should be there after that.

I didn't see anywhere that it had updated my drivers. I'm thinking at this point that I might as well just give up on being able to DJ again.

If you have an extra soundcard that you can plug into yer PC, try that and see if it works.

Maybe your onboard sound has gone wonky or something?

Unfortunately, I don't have an extra sound card here. All of my other miscellaneous computer parts are still in Louisiana. Sucks being military, it really does.

K...lets try and figure this out.

Do you have any other DSP plugins installed?
