disable yp_add ?
Before anyone jumps on me, I did indeed search for this, but I can't seem to find an answer.
I am relaying a stream using a shoutcast server inside our workplace because several of us listen to the same stream. We thought it would be nice to hit the server with one client, rather than five. Since the server is behind a firewall, though, yp_add fails (as it should). Is there any way to disable yp.shoutcast.com interaction to keep these messages from cropping up? I'd also like to cut down on errant traffic for the yp.shoutcast.com server. Thanks, matt |

Yes change:
PublicServer=default to PublicServer=never in sc_serv.ini/sc_serv.conf then restart the DNAS. Tom |

Chaboud is not sourcing a DNAS. He* is relaying one so DNAS configuration is required.
* Assuming Matt = he.

Thanks, guys, Tom's answer does the trick.
Now I don't feel like our office is a huge bandwidth sink. |

Once again, Chaboud is not sourcing a DNAS. He is relaying one.
Instead of taking a listener slot from the main DNAS for each lan listener, Chaboud is connecting a DNAS to it for the lan listeners to connect. He's saving bandwidth on the main DNAS side. It would be courteous to notify the main DNAS operator of your relay intentions. Some operators care, some do not. But the effort taken should be well received. |

Thanks, festerhead. That is a very good point. I'll send an email to the operator.
I'm sure that our System Administrator will be happy to see that we're sucking up one fifth of the bandwidth that we were previously taking. |
