I have a 56k dialup, and Windows XP says I log on at 52.0 kbs. What can I do to broadcast my winamp to my friends? I use squaresoft crossfader with Enhancer to play the songs in winamp, and I record with a creative recorder for about 70 mins(makes one big wav file, uggh), then I burn the wav to a cd and give them to my friends, and they love it.

Can anyone help me to broadcast, and can anyone help me to record cds like this, as the sound quality of the cds REALLY DOES sound like a radio station(the sound quality is lower).

Also, I would like to record DIRECTLY OF THE AIR, what I mean is, how can I plug my stereo into my pc, my stereo has a red and white plug outputs, and my comp doesnt. thanks.

line in will alow you to plug your sterio into the PC, you will need a connector that converts the dule outlets into a single jack (thease are easy to fined)

as for lowering the quality, simple covert them eiether to a MP3 of lets say 128-192kbps, or use a BAD format like WMA (The first choice is better, Trust me on that)

Thanks, Im browsing for a converter right now so I can plug it in, and I think I misworded my second question; When I record the Wav to CD, the sound quality is lower than if I just burnt the origional MP3s, so I am looking for a better way to crosfade the songs and get the qaulity of the final cd higher. Maybe that "Enhancer" program is only good for headphones and desktop speakers, or maybe Sqauresoft crosfader reduces the qaulity, I think Ill try to record a cd without those(just mp3s playing in winamp) to wave and burn one.

Ill post here when im done, but that still wont give the cds that "radios station feel" without the crosfadeing.

You have a groblem, what your doing is taking the original file and Re-encoding it, that never works well, you should consider geting higher kbps MP3's then writing to wav, that will reduce the problem, but not much.

Unfortunatly as you said you have a 56k, uhg, so downloads are going to be a bit on the VERY long side.

At this point musicmatch is my favorite encoder/decoder for converting mp3's to wave or visa versa. Winamp plug-ins for this function are alright but not as refined as the encoding burning capabilities of musicmatch. I use Winamp to listen to Mp3s I use musicmatch to take my favorite cuts on the road and like winamp its FREE.

as for broadcasting you would have to decrease the bit rate down below 60kbps, if you want to enjoy them over a dail up. If your puting them on a server and sharing w broadband users, feel free to encode at 128kbps.

Well, I tried it. I used winamp to play MP3s of 128/44 or better. I played roughly 70 mins of MP3s all the while recording with creatives recorder. I then burnt the recording results to cd, and compared it with another burnt cd of the same mp3s. As you might have guessed, the quality of the wav file as compared to the MP3s was lower, mostly in that it just wasnt as crisp as the origional mp3s. I guess the next question is how to I get better quality out of a wav file.

Is there another way I can record what winamp is playing that better preserves the sound? Should I spend some time tweaking wwinamps equalizer and plugins to try to make up for it? Is there a way to get the same results without recording with creative(or any wav recorder) sound? It is pretty tedious, if not like doing a REAL broadcast to sit for 70 mins and record what winamp is playing, but, I guess if I didnt enjoy it so much I wouldnt do it, or strive to broadcast.

I am not exactly sure by process you are using to create your cd’s, but it sounds from your description a bit peculiar. I am not familiar with software that records directly from what is being run on the soundcard in a streaming fashion (IE: recording a winamp playlist as it runs to the cd). Depending on your hardware I could see how you are suffering a loss in quality implementing this practice. I suggest you try the software I suggested prior, and if you have the actual files on your hd, convert to wave, make a playlist with its included burning software, and burn it. (for better quality chose volume leveling and play with other available settings.)

If you are using a hardware independent burner, and plugging it in through the audio jack, don’t bother.By converting it back to wav the quality will not improve and in computer burners this is done for compatability with most cd players. Once compressed you can not reobtain the original cd quality by converting it back to the wav format, just as a photocopy of a picture will never be as sharp as the original. Converting the file to a wav format for the streaming to an external burner will only degrade the quality by shuffling around the data once again.
