Can I reroute from my usual IP to a backup IP?

hello, everyone.

Here's a question with an accompanying scenario:

My ISP is having a scheduled outage this coming weekend, meaning I won't be able to broadcast from my usual IP address for between 12 and 24 hours.

As a solution, I'd like to be able to take my computer to another Internet connection on an ISP that is not going to be down, then have listeners who try to access the stream through their bookmarks, favorites, or hotlinks automatically rerouted to the alternate IP ...

Is it now possible to do this with the Shoutcast server, or even possibly through some setting in my computer? I suppose this is not the same as a relay, since the original IP won't be up and there won't be anything to relay FROM.

And of course, if I simply broadcast from the other IP, I know the listeners will still be able to access the stream from the Shoutcast directory, but I'm sure we have lots of listeners using favorites or bookmarks. I want to make it easy for them....

Any suggestions?

thanks in advance!

I couldn't imagine how a dead ip could have a web server running there saying go to this other web site.

If you are using domain names you could update the DNS record to point to the other site until things got squared away with the original IP.

Using a backup IP address

Interesting...

Unfortunately, I'm not using domain names, only IP numbers.

I know this query is a shot in the dark, but here's what I was thinking when I wrote it (If you wanted to call me a complete idiot because of my ignorance, I'd understand):

I've noticed that streams with servers running in clusters have a list of IP addresses in the Winamp "Playlist" window. When one address is either down or at max. listener capacity (I'm not sure which), I get routed to the next IP address in the list, and so on until I get connected to an open IP.

So, what I was hoping was that something similar could be arranged in this case: a list of IP addresses, as in a relay, with listeners being routed to the next one if the first is closed.

If this isn't presently possible, then maybe I should put it on my wishlist. Or am I dreaming?

you could create a playlist file, put it on a remote file server. Then put the link somewhere will everybody will see it (Forums).

it would be like a playlist file if one doesn't work it goes to the next

xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:xxxx
xx.xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:xxxx
