Live Caller Advice

for those who want to do live caller requests on the air (where the caller is actually heardon the broadcast) via the internet, I stumbled across something earlier tonight. here are the programs I was using:

Winamp 2.9 w/ SAM Encoders DSP
Microsoft Game Voice Share (connected to a friend's connection)

basically, I started gvs first and had it connected. was chatting with my friend for a bit. launched winamp (SAM encoders auto-loaded since i was selected beforehand). I started it broadcasting to my server, playing music. no errors. switched mixer recording to Stereo Mix (or Mixed out) and still no issues.

I heard: my friend , my music playing in Winamp
He Heard: my music , me

now, I dont know if his voice was actually transmitted via shoutcast, but I suppose it was since the recording source was set to include it.

hope this helps some ppl out. apparently SAM encoders is the key in this issue since the regular shoutcast DSP has problems broadcasting while gvs is running.

I've done a similar thing before using BatleComm, and yes the listeners could hear both. I've also done it using RogerWilco but find BattleComm better for quality/bandwith useage.

Its all in the sound mapping.

Anything thats sent to the sound mapper will end up in the encoded streams, this is not a fault but the way it works, so what ever client you use, if it uses sound, you will find it in the sound channel, you cant do voice chat via yahoo as it uses the same .dll as the Winamp/DSP plugin.

I am surprised that the SHOUTcast system does not allow internal bussing of audio, this would eliminate alot of audio issues with unwanted browser clicks and critical stop sounds getting blasted into the audio stream.
