volume won't change

hello

I change my winamp volume level everytime I use it to 100%,
but it just goes back to 50% when I open winamp again.
How do I fix this, so it stays at 100%?

Make sure winamp.ini in the main Winamp dir does not have the "read-only" attribute. If it has, set it to "archive" instead (c/o rt click -> properties).

The relevant line in winamp.ini would be:
volume=100
(or in your case: volume=50)

it is not read-only, but it is archived.
the volume level set inside the file is at 255
and I can't change it. It just keeps going
back to 255.

What about if the "enable volume control" is un-ticked? That might be the problem, I dunno.

No wait sorry i just discovered that it only keeps the original sound before you un-tick it. Sorry

My apologies also.
When volume is at 100%, the winamp.ini setting is:
volume=255 (not "volume=100" as I said in my first post)
And when volume is at 50%, winamp.ini setting is: volume=130

I'm not sure why it measures it this way.
Anyone here know the significance of 255?
Same scale as RGB values . . . ?!

Anyway . . . back on topic:

Let's have some relevant system specs then please.
(cpu, ram, soundcard, windows os, directx version)

Does the problem occur with both WaveOut and DirectSound Output plugins?
(Prefs -> plugins -> output -> the hi-lighted plugin is the active one)

Have you installed any 3rd-party plugins?

What file formats are you playing?
(mp3, wav, wma, midi, audio cd, other/all?)

Did you try any of the extra tips from those links I posted above?
(adjusting "volume control" settings in WaveOut/DirectSound Output configs)

Maximum value that can be stored in one byte(unsigned). Presumable this is scaled as a percentage for display purposes. This sort of set up is often used to allow future changes e.g. increasing the volume slider resolution(number of setting steps available) without making changes to the structures being used.
