What a rip off. This is so unoriginal. I wonder if Nullsoft will threaten to sue for duplicating their website?

i asked whether winamp will have a competitor (i know... it's only a baby now but maybe, in time it will grow)
i don't want to know your oppinion about about copyright or anything like it.
just tell me if you (don't) like the program, and why?
thnx

I reported them to admin a few months back:

But my main point is they distribute the Winamp3 skins "ported" to their player, which seems a bit off. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but this is maybe going a little too far.

Point is...
We don't like it because of their lack of originality. Tell the devs to get their own sense of style. If they blatantly rip off the design, how are we to know they aren't also ripping off code without crediting or licensing from the proper parties?

I was away for a while.
But I'm feeling much better now.

And if just copying the style weren't bad enough, they've got some actual bits of the Winamp3 default skin in their default skin:
(See the Winamp3 EQ balance slider and the Synapse slider directly beneath. The only differnce is a slightly more blue-ish tone to the synapse version, the individual pixels are otherwise identical.)
http://www.napolifamily.net/images/skinrip.png
(You may need to cut and paste the link into a new browser window for it to work...my web provider is being stingy with the bandwidth, appearently....or just dl winamp3 and synapse and compare for yourseves )

I was away for a while.
But I'm feeling much better now.

The idea would be cool if I wasn't working on something similar but much better, and open source, myself, and god knows why they wrote their own player to implement it.

ok ...
so for one louzy button let's criticize them. let's trash their peputation.
honestly i don't think they took the code from winamp, because synapse uses system codecs, and from what i think winamp has it's own, right?
so they had some inspiration from winamp (let's admit it, it's almost perfect, winamp that is), i repeat so what, their not thieves, they just wanted to do something that they thought it would be better.

I can see, just first glance in one screen shot on that site, 4 things that were directly ripped from Winamp 3's skin and/or Winamp 3's design. Plus, their website is so obviously a direct rip of Winamp's that it's kinda pathetic.

How do they expect to gain respect when they are so blatently ripping off other peoples work?

let's say you would make an mp3 player.
how would your site look like (including all the files and documents necessary)?

Maybe like this one, or this one, but quite probably more like this one, and most definitely not like this one.

None of which look anything like winamp.com (I'm not even a great fan of the winamp.com design).

It's not the design of the homepage that tells that a software is good or bad.
Maybe they didn't had enough time to think at an interestig and orriginal layout for it.
Download it. Install it. Use it for at least 2 days, see what it does, and then write your oppinion. Everybody can criticize it at a first glance.
Someone said that he doesn't like it because it's not stand alone.
Well... tell me, what do we use winamp for?
We listen to mp3-s mostly (i think...).
Windows starting from 98 has support in Media Player for mp3-s.
Instead of using Win M P we could use Synapse (a cute little player).
Who knows? Maybe in time it will become stand-allone.
Waiting your replies

i don't like it...i've used winamp for three or four years now and I am used to it. Plus, Winamp 2.x has very few bugs in it, Winamp in general and a huge fan/developer base. I am not switching over because my skins are not compatible, and I cannot do AVS on it. the website is a major ripoff of the winamp site, which is why we are mad. What russ is saying is that it is more than a coincidence that the two sites look similar. Plus, Synapse ripped the buttons, and who knows what else

Tried to use it, doesn't stand up as competition to anyone. Unoriginal, unfinished, under-optioned. I could never use it for regular playback. The Natural Language Console IS an interesting concept for a media player/jukebox, but not compelling enough when wrapped in the whole Synapse package (maybe the authors would like to implement a Winamp media lib plugin of the NLC?)

ymer_re, Good try mate, but I think you can see that your not getting very far, but winamp user's stay kinda loyal. It would have to be really really special to grab the attention of this crowd [:P ]

When Mods start giving it a thumbs down, I ain't arguing...(You ain't seen Bilbo's Boobie's )

Liked the Colours is all I can say, as for style, layout etc ? NAh not like ...That seems to be the general opinion so leave it at that,

So, welcome to the forums and see you about
