Welcome MakSa
![]() Cylob, I've always promised myself to listen to Curve stuff, considering they toured with The Cure in 1992 opening for them, they must be good. What should I start with ? |

I'm a big cure fan dating from Boys Don't Cry era. I have listened to most of the albums/Cd's except for some rare B-side unreleased. I do think that Bloodflowers is pretty much the ending of the Cure, untill some old members can rejoin. I don't think that is going to happen. Kiss Me.., and Disentigration I think was the last of the true Cure sound.
Glad to join the forum. It's nice to see that people still listen to the Cure. |

But I suppose everyone borrows from everyone. I could name 10 bands that have borrowed heavilly from The Cure, Slowdive for instance stole various baselines. |

Wish was indeed sort of a tribute to all of the shoegazing guitar bands that emerged in the early 90s, most of which had The Cure as an obvious influence.
At least, the B-side boxset (now scheduled for Jan 2004) will allow us to hear some cool tracks with the best band members; as long as Cooper and Bamonte remain in the band, The Cure will not be able to rise to its old level

I like Wish, though it's never been a fave of mine. It's a pure rock record but I think that most tracks off it are way better played live (esp Open, Cut, End), the album is somehow overproduced but some songs on it are some of my fave cure numbers ( To Wish Impossible Thins, Apart, A Letter To Elise)

thats among my fav cure songs and your totaly right, most songs on that albumn come across better live, but ive always thought that the album itself has a really cool feel. |

I find Wish to be eclectic, almost a compilation album. But that's what happens when your head's in 3 or 4 places. They were going to record 2 albums - 1 pop and 1 more serious, but they just did the 1 (which was neither). Some of my favourite tracks are on Wish, Open is as good as anything they've done (past, present or future).
To change subject, I think the percussion on Bloodflowers is excellent. Well done Jason.

![]() Seriously what tracks in particular ? Jason may be acceptable on percussion, but for proper drumming, he's hopeless (he ruins Maybe Someday and 39 with his lousy drumming). |

I always thought he did a good job on Maybe Someday. He fits the melody like a glove there.

many people considered Mixed Up to be a robert smith project and didn't actually like it.. I do, but they would be daft to do another one..
I agree with Cylob... whats wrong with the drumming on Bloodflowers? Sounds good to me - especially on 39 |

I'm not saying Bloodflowers is up to Disintegration standards (did I say that)????? If I did, I deserve a good kicking.
![]() All in all, I think Bloodflowers is good for a band 20+ years old. The percussion fits the style. It's not a great album by any standards, but good enough. |

Hmm, you've seem to mellow about Bloodflowers over the last couple of pages.
And Wish was a decent album. Haven't listened to it in awhile though. I'll have to hit my brother's collection

I clearly remember the first time I listened to Bloodflowers, I was lying on my bed and song after song, I thought " They've completely lost it". I hated the album, then it grew on me thanks to some excellent songs 'Watching Me Fall, Last Day Of Summer, The Loudest Sound' but I've always considered it as second-class Cure.
I really wish they released another record as important as Faith or Disintegation, but I don't think it's gonna happen, which is sad. |

As to the new album, recording is supposed to start soon (has been for two years now ), with Ross Robinson as producer and (sadly), Cooper still on drums.

About the teasing thing : it's always been a component of the Cure and clearly not my fave. Rumours about the B-side boxset started around 97/98, rumours about Robert's solo album started in 1984, the end of the band was announced in 1982, 1987, 1989,2000 and so on...

I think for a band thats been around for 25 years (dont know exact time.. Twilightseer - do you?) Bloodflowers is a very good album.. many long time bands cannot do this.. I can think of 2 that can.. New Order and U2..
I watched some of the Bloodflowers set on the Cure Trilogy DVD and it has some very good songs on it... |

To answer your question orac, The Cure has officially been in existence since 1976, releasing their first single in 1978 so that indeed makes 25 years.
Also, I don't say Bloodflowers is bad, it's just that it's not great when it had the potential to be, it was disappointing by the band's standards which still makes it superior to much of the stuff we can hear anyway

Here's a clip of the Blan & Jones w/ Robert video for A Forest, WARNING: it's on Real Player. Ohhhh, Cylob, I saw that Cure is going to do a benefit concert in London on December 11 for something or the other. Let us know about any reviews, ok?

As usual, bumping the thread for news.
First, it seems that Blank & Jones have decided to use up their "A Forest" remixes thing since they are releasing yet another CD with remixes and various other tracks for a special edition of the single. I'm ranting because I'm a tad fed up with always hearing the same songs remixed but well, Blank and Jones are good at that ![]() Apart from that, "Believe", the song whose lyrics Robert wrote and sang for the next Earl Slick album will be the first single off said album and should be released in January 2004. 12 January 2004 is also the new tentative date for the release of the B-sides collection "Join the dots" (which I'm sure will be postponed to 2007 in the next news bulletin ).In short, not much happening. And in fact, I find myself less and less interested in what the band does. Considering the awful line-up is not about to change, and that I find other acts to be very interesting at the moment, my taste for Cure music is sort of going down. Stay tuned anyway, who knows, Cooper may still be fired and then...

Are you talking about the 1991 performance ? Yes, it's absolutely awesome, way better than anything on 'Acoustic hits'.

Yeah, the 1991 set. I just searched for 'MTV Unplugged' and ended up with a disc full. The Duran Duran and Bjork sets are good as well.
