Is 'Halo' another Depeche Mode cover??
I'm gonna check my internet supplier to see if there's any 'advance' stock. The Just Say Yes (Curve Remix) ain't that good (for Curve standards). Starts off like a fax machine, jagged guitars, ends up sounding like Atari Teenage Riot. Maybe it's a grower....Track listing again (the page flicked). CD1 (1979 - 1987) 01. 10:15 SATURDAY NIGHT 02. PLASTIC PASSION 03. PILLBOX TALES 04. DO THE HANSA 05. I'M COLD 06. ANOTHER JOURNEY BY TRAIN 07. DESCENT 08. SPLINTERED IN HER HEAD 09. LAMENT (flexipop version) 10. JUST ONE KISS 11. THE DREAM 12. THE UPSTAIRS ROOM 13. LAMENT 14. SPEAK MY LANGUAGE 15. MR PINK EYES 16. HAPPY THE MAN 17. THROW YOUR FOOT 18. NEW DAY 19. THE EXPLODING BOY 20. A FEW HOURS AFTER THIS... 21. A MAN INSIDE MY MOUTH 22. STOP DEAD CD2 (1987 - 1992) 01. A JAPANESE DREAM 02. BREATHE 03. A CHAIN OF FLOWERS 04. SNOW IN SUMMER 05. SUGAR GIRL 06. ICING SUGAR (weird remix) 07. HEY YOU!!! (kevorkian 12" remix) 08. No, The Cure's "Halo" is not another DM cover, it's an original song, a b-side from the Wish era
![]() Needless to say, I'll be buying the boxset. Most of the songs on this collection are incredible and heck, hearing the Cure without Cooper again is a joy I don't wanna miss

I'm beginning to dislike Cooper myself. His website REALLY SUCKS (you can't right-click on the photos). Bummer, I was going to photoshop a tit on his head.

![]() Cylob, please link to the Photoshopped pic when it's ready, I don't wanna miss that ![]() Seriously, his drumming on Trilogy is terrible. On 'Plainsong', you just can't hear the drums. I checked out Muse's live video 'Hullabaloo' right after that and then, you get to see what a drummer really is

The Birth Of A Cure Fan
OK, I just spent an hour of my life reading this thread. Twice. MAINLY because the people in it are people I trust implicitly in this forum, so I knew it wouldn't be time wasted. Let me start by saying that I used to hate The Cure. **ducks rotten tomatoes thrown from all directions** I grew up in their heyday, too, and somehow avoided the "addiction". I remember dating a girl who loved them, and I could not understand why. Then, I started to "come around". Years ago I bought Staring At The Sea. Then later I bought Galore. Grrrradually listening to them more and more. Learned to play four Cure songs on electric bass, and even played them on stage a few times with a cover band we had in PA, circa 1997-1998 (Just Like Heaven, Fascination Street, Lovesong, Close To Me). The addiction still hadn't "taken hold" yet, though. The Cure was "just another band" to me. In years since, The Cure has gotten more and more frequent playtime for me. In recent months, my (still) only two Cure albums are among my most frequently played in WA. The addiction begins to surface. More time goes by, and then I read this thread. It was final straw. Right now, Primary is playing, as a matter of fact, and I'm admitting that I'm totally hooked. And I'm elated to hear about the upcoming box set. There's my next Amazon pre-order. And until it comes out, I'll be buying every other Cure album I can possibly find. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone in this thread for giving me the push I needed to dive headlong into this fantastic band. I've been swimming around in psychedelic rock and riot grrrl for the past year or so. And now I'm dying to get into The Cure. I feel like a wanker for only having the "greatest hits" compilations as my only Cure albums for so long. Now I know where all the money I receive for Christmas is going to! **Looking around for the Stuart Spector 4-string** Maybe I can even remember some notes from years back...
I'm a psychosomatic sister running around without a leash. |

Well, the birth of a Cure fan is much better than the death of a Cure fan.
They've contributed much to my life.

Glad we helped, Scor, and welcome to the club
![]() Trust me, you won't be disappointed with the B-Sides compilation, masterpieces galore on that. "Primary" is such an awesome song, it's one of the songs that got me hooked on The Cure. Have lots of fun discovering their albums and of course, feel free to post here for any kind of recommendations/impressions/questions, we'll be glad to help

Time for a bump
![]() Just to say that Join The Dots has been released and although it's not as complete as I hoped, it still kicks ass, especially the Wish era b-sides with incredible drumming from Boris Williams The least good part if of course the latest stuff (Cooper plays on it, that's why) but heck, this is an impressive collection

I'll get a track listing when I get home.... it could be an unofficial collection of b-sides/demos from the Seventeen Seconds era.

No problem
![]() Actually, I'm listening to the Cure right now. The B-side compilation boxset is really cool, especially the B-sides from the Wish era. Now if only they decided it was high time to make such music again... |

Well, I'm sure that Smith still has the talent. The problem I think is that the people around him influence his writing and then, it all depends on who is on your side. Porl Thompson and Boris Williams were creative as musicians: first, they had their own, well-defined style and second of all, they were not only here to play what was written for them, they suggested their own ideas and enriched the material they were given. Now, I don't see how Bamonte (tepid Thompson understudy) and Cooper (the first guy who plays drums on cushions) could have a positive influence on the things to come. "Possession", the Bloodflowers outtake featured on Join The Dots seems to show it : vapid people have vapid influences and yet, you can still feel the talent is here, it just needs better conditions to burst open.

I've no doubt the talent's there, but what about the drive?
Maybe Robert should collaborate with other artists - example, Curve did alot of work on Gary Numan's latest album. Okay, so it sounded like Curve with Gary on vocals, but Robert would benefit from input from other artists. Lock him in a studio with Kevin Sheilds and Bobby Gillespie. For fun, why not add Peaches.

Has anyone heard of 'The Essence'?
They're a Cure clone band, they sound EXACTLY like the real thing. Discog: 1984 - Last Flight 1988 - Ecstacy 1999 - Purity 1999 - A Moment of Trust 2000 - Broken Promises 2003 - Glow You can either love 'em for following the Cure or hate 'em for the imitation. I'm in the former camp. ![]() |

Bumping again
![]() For those interested, worthwile news. Tonight, on Jay Leno, The Cure is supposed to be performing the first single taken from their new album. The single is called "The End Of World" (Somehow, I doubt it'll be a cover of the excellent PSB song of the same name ). The new album is due on June 21st, is produced by Ross Robinson (of Korn fame), supposedly contains 14 tracks and its title is unknown so far.And apparently, Cooper's still in the band. Anyway, I'm waiting for this with more curiosity than real excitement but who knows, maybe I'll be surprised. Stay tuned folks

Album details here
http://www.billboard.com/bb/daily/ar..._id=1000500179 I know I shouldn't judge beforehand, but the track titles look dubious to me. "Jason #3" alone makes me shiver

I didn't think I had any Cure tracks when I started reading this thread then had a dig through my collection and found a couple and liked what I heard. Have now got Disintegration on it's way, and am looking forward to listening to it.

I've got hold of some Cure:
The Head On The Door Staring At The Sea (The Singles) Disintegration Faith Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me Pornography Greatest Hits (just for the accoustic versions on second disc) I've only properly listened to Disintegration so far and am liking what I hear so far, just need time to listen to the rest without being disturbed by other things all the time.
