Net Send is a real solution?

Anyone: Is there any tip about how to send a message to a listener connected to your SC stream? I sometimes use Net Send to ask listeners that stay for 10 hours connected on my stream, what are they enjoying the most on my selection. Anyways, Net Send sometimes simply cannot send the message.... I searched for an application that could maybe send email directly to IP, but I am sure my chances are maybe zero.
BTW I am not thinking in go to Unix or Linux at this time...

I will appreciate your remarks.

"net send" only works for Windows machines and even there only if the messenger service is running (something needs to receive your message). If someone does not have anything like that running you simply cannot reach him.

I don't think anyone would have a interst in listening to ANYBODY's stream for 10 hours, I've had 5 hours. But I don't think its right to...

1. Spam the listener with Net Send
2. Make the listener uncomfortable by sending a net set message
3. Telling em to listen for 10 hours

Yet thats just my opinion

I dont see the problem. kibrit just asks for some feedback from his longterm listeners.

I've got people connected for over 45 hours. I think sometimes the IP will stick even though they are not listening. But I've had some listeners tell me they have it on for over 24 hours. prolly a bunch of drunk college kids sleeping hehe. dont bother me. listen all you want as long as the servers arent full.

DrZoid got the right pic.
But at least I know now: there is nothing to do till someone give us a built in communicator in SC.
Is that a good idea?

Well, as long as the Shoutcast server does not have a bug which shows a listener although he already disconnected, there have to be an actual connection.

I prefer when my listeners actually listen . Otherwise its a waste of precious bandwidth .

It would be possible with a Winamp plugin. However this would need to be installed by default as you otherwise have the same situation and I am not sure whether many users would be happy with that (although it would be just a small plugin waiting for text messages). Anyway, the easiest solution is probably to broadcast from time to time your own messages (just like radio stations) asking your listeners to give you feedback.

Well. In my words, I'm not paying for the bandwith. So go on listen to my station And you can get drunk, not even listen to my station. heck you can even put my station on mute. If you don't have winamp open. Just go ahead and listen to my station

Help me make it into the shoutcast stats

that makes some pupose, not wasting any of my bandwith. I have to stream at 128 24/7

Those are 1,3 GB per day per user (even the upstream if you are not streaming locally). Which magic line did you get providing such traffic ?

Well, seems like Dj runs a big SC server eh!.....
And believe me: that would be a magic line indeed....

Other: I have an automation program that bcasts everyhour a message to my listeners...and periodic programs....Just couldnt fix yet the sound volume of my talking clock to tell them the time....My time zone of course, in 4 different languages.

In any manner, magnifica risposta, DrZ.

In other words: lets make the world listen to what we do!

All the best.

guess theres a bug then cause I've seen it lots of times. IP's will stick after the listener closes winamp.

It would be a waste of bandwidth if no one was using it. After all its already paid for.

I have never experienced this "sticking bug".
What I have sometimes is lots of log lines telling me the user connects/disconnects/connects/disconnects....50, 60 times.... and I dont realy know if it is something to concern.
Tell me then....
