My modem is for Craziness!
I'm at work and it's actually my coworker who's got the crazy modem. IT dials, makes them crazy sounds, and the the two computer with green screens appears in the taskbar. THe problem, is that when i open Netscape/IE, i can't connect to anything. When checking the status it says connected, but bytes sent and bytes recieved stay constant, at like 1k bytes. So apparently it connects and then stops working. WEIRD. I tried searching different things on google but what is a good searchline? ANy help with either the modem or my google skills will be greatly appreciated.

it's possible that IE and Netscape aren't set up to find your dial-up connection, check the browser connection settings: Tools > Internet options.. in IE. I don't know about netscape.

Can you ping other servers on the net? Try pinging google's server for example.
Start > run > command Type "ping 216.239.33.99" (no quotes) and press enter. You should see a reply like this: Pinging 216.239.33.99 with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 216.239.33.99: bytes=32 time=370ms TTL=48 Reply from 216.239.33.99: bytes=32 time=368ms TTL=48 Reply from 216.239.33.99: bytes=32 time=351ms TTL=48 Reply from 216.239.33.99: bytes=32 time=348ms TTL=48 Ping statistics for 216.239.33.99: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 348ms, Maximum = 370ms, Average = 359ms Then try this, "ping www.google.com" (no quotes) You should see a reply like this: Pinging www.google.com [216.239.33.99] with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 216.239.33.99: bytes=32 time=366ms TTL=48 Reply from 216.239.33.99: bytes=32 time=359ms TTL=48 Reply from 216.239.33.99: bytes=32 time=355ms TTL=48 Reply from 216.239.33.99: bytes=32 time=351ms TTL=48 Ping statistics for 216.239.33.99: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 351ms, Maximum = 366ms, Average = 357ms If you can ping with both an ip adress and a domain name, but cant connect via a browser, then it's a problem with the browser settings. If you can ping with an ip, but get an error like 'cant find host name' when pinging the domain, then you have a dns resolution problem, so go back to the command line and type in "ipconfig /flushdns" (no quotes), and try pinging google's domain again. If it still doesnt work, then you'll have to contact your isp. If you cant even ping when entering in a ip adress then there's either a firewall blocking all connections, you've got a modem/driver problem or the isp is having difficulties. Hope that all made sense... Let us know how you go.

One Meeelyon thanks atmo. Both pinged so it was a browser problem. I changed the netscape from direct connection to the internet from manual proxie and now it works like a charm. IE still doesnt' work, but that's a good thing.
