Help WCUR
Hey guys, thanks for taking time out to brainstorm with me on WCU's college radio situation here. As you can tell on our new web page, http://www.wcur.fm, we've been trying to launch a new webstream with little luck. Our problems, as I see them:
We're using an obscure OS, BeOs, on our new automation system, which uses the programs TuneTracker and SoundPlay (very similar to Winamp) to generate mp3 playlists and stream them. The school's bandwidth sucks. But we knew that already, which is why this stream stays in test mode. If you want to try to give it a listen, the server is http://quad.wcupa.edu and the port number is 8000. We are broadcasting at 56kbps right now. With the school's network problems as of this morning, even getting one stream going is a challenge; it sounds choppy, and we only get 10 or 15 seconds of audio going before it cuts out. ----- With that said, we have a server lined up to redistribute our stream, and the network problems at the school should clear up within a few days. We've tried using Shoutcast on the BeOs machine with no luck whatsoever. I'm not sure we can use Shoutcast on the server outside the school. With your knowledge of streaming mp3, what can we do to mirror our radio station on the internet to make it widely available, without using Shoutcast? Thanks in advance, TJ Nicolaides Programming Director WCUR - 91.7 FM - The Curve |
