Where is the best place to get a host?

Where is the best company that could host my Internet company? How much banwdith would I need for about 300 people on a day? Will it be exspensive?

I'd think your best bet would be with NBox. That's just my opinion though. It will be pretty expensive too. Considering that each slot is at least a dollar.

also with NBox the user its like

Bitrate / Monthly Charge

24kbps / 0.90/user
40kbps / 1.30/user
56kbps / 1.70/user
64kbps / 1.90/user
80kbps / 2.50/user
96kbps / 3.00/user
128kbps / $4.00/user
160kbps / $4.90/user

what about banwdwith I dont see it talked about it where I am looking... and by user so if say 200 people log on that would equal so much. (that is max cap say) then 50 log off... then 50 more log on would I have to pay another amount for 50 users?

**Added**

I am mostly going to have a talk show type radio for about 5 to 7 hours a day (still deciding) then the rest will be music..

No, those numbers there are the max. So if your max listener rate is say, 200, you would only have to pay for 200 slots. Then if 50 were to log on, the log off, and another 50 on, there's no extra. You just pay for the max listener limit.

*Edit*

As for bandwith, ask DJHotIce, he worked there.

How It Works Is, If You Buy 50 128kbps Slots ($200) That's How Many Listeners You Can Have At The Same Time

If You Buy 50, You Can Only Have 50 Listening At Once, But You Only Pay One Flat Fee No Matter How Many Unique Listeners.

Same Goes For Any Stream Hosting Company.

40kbps would work better.
I'd recommend 56kbps.

NBOX Gives you enough bandwidth to run the number of slots you bought 24/7 full.

If You Buy 25 40kbps Slots, We Give You Enough Bandwidth To Broadcast To 25 listeners 24/7. You'll Never Run Out.

I looking at the NBox buying plans and all and I ran into

95% Uptime now.. is it scedual down time or it could crash type thing? Problem I could see with the 95% up time is there will be certin times in the day every day that there will be a talk show and it could effect how things run. Gah so much to think of. By the way I am going with NBox (soon not right this second still moving in my new house)

anyways thanks again!

It's A Scheduled Downtime Kind Of Thing. We'll Notify You Beforehand About The Downtime, And The Downtime Is Usually About 1-2 Minutes Long Only.

I would check http://radiotoolbox.com/hosts/ and compare pricing before you jump into that. It's a little on the steep side if you ask me.

I'd highly recommend streamguys. (www.streamguys.com) They've been around for a long time and I've been really happy with their services over the last year and a half. I've tried a bunch of others who have come and gone, and streamguys has been consistent. If you go to streamguys tell them the prices that nbox will offer, and they will probably negotiate to match their pricing, but I think the rates are the same.

I'd also recommend going with a low bitrate if talk is your main focus. 24kbps should be good enough for talk.

If you end up getting info from streamguys, tell them I sent you... The guy I talk with over there is great, always quick responses, always good to deal with. I don't get anything for referrals or anything, just want to keep a good company around.

good luck,
rob

I left them after significant peering issues between cox communications (my provider) and every single one of their server locations (which are all a single provider, Server Central). They may be a large provider, but the drawback is there's a ton of traffic through their peering arrangements with major ISP's from all the listeners that cause intermittant high latency periods for some (not ALL) listeners.

Try Bean-Net.... low low prices... their Tech support is fantastic!
And the uptime they have is amazing. This is a must. Starting at just 50 cents for 1 slot at 24k!

That's not an adequate review.

Please note I am not bashing anyone (acording to teh rules). Just pointing out my experiences.

I *would* like to point out that Bean-net is hosted as a reseller on the streamguys network so my previous comment applies to them as well. You have an even LESS chance of having BGP modified to improve peering/ping issues being twice removed from Server Central.

Bandwidth caps are not the way to go.

SHOUTcasting takes up quite a bit of bandwidth and you may find yourself reaching the cap after a week. Then, you may be faced with potentially high over-the-cap bandwidth fees.

Use one of the bandwidth calculators (see below) to play with the numbers.

Remember folks, cheap does not necessarily mean reliable nor dependable. I reckon the same could be said about expensive hosts, too, eh?

If you haven't yet gone to http://radiotoolbox.com/hosts/ and read the editorials and reviews, you should.

Check out the Sticky post titled:
SHOUTcast: Important Info & Answers to FAQs. READ ME!

Scroll down a bit and look for the section titled:
1. DNAS Stuff -> Bandwidth -> DSLReports Bandwidth tester(Only be concerned with the UPLOAD bandwidth)
2. DNAS Stuff -> Bandwidth -> CasterClub's Listener Calculator
3. DNAS Stuff -> Bandwidth -> CasterClub's Bandwidth Calculator

Jay (KXRM) also has a Bandwidth Calculator.

So I am guessing that can be a better deal for most since you can stream at any bit rate you want without paying obnoxious per connection fees. Correct me if I am wrong?
you do realize that this topic died a month ago, why are you systematically dredging up old topics to spam?

Streaming Services

Are you getting enough advice

I have been using Atwater Digital www.atwaterdigital.com

100% uptime and pretty good pricing for premium bandwidth. I have tried 4 or 5 of the other major guys and they are all pretty good, but Atwater is the only one I have actually had 100% uptime with.

Like one member said, go to Radio Tool box. They'll steer you in the right direction.
