Hey, I'm new and I have a few questions

I'm on Comcast High Speed broadband. How many people do you think I could have streaming, err, listening to my radio at a time?

Depends on your upload and your target streaming bitrate.

Check out the Sticky post titled:
SHOUTcast: Important Info & Answers to FAQs. READ ME!

Scroll down a bit and look for the section titled:
1. DNAS Stuff -> Bandwidth -> DSLReports Bandwidth tester(Only be concerned with the UPLOAD bandwidth)
2. DNAS Stuff -> Bandwidth -> CasterClub's Listener Calculator
3. DNAS Stuff -> Bandwidth -> CasterClub's Bandwidth Calculator

Use 1 to find your upload.
Use 2 to determine the number of listeners you can support at your selected streaming bitrate.

Jay (KXRM) also has a Bandwidth Calculator.

Please elaborate on "it".

I could iterate through the permutations, but I'm not in the mood (Rush reference not intended).

I have comcast high speed broadband as well. The most I can have connect to me is 5-6 using encoders set @ 24,000 kbps Mono.

Any 56k'er that connect to you if you have more than 1 listener will buffer a little, more buffering if you have more listeners. Hope this helps.

If you would like to find out how much bandwidth you have, visit:

DSLReports Speed Test

You will be concerned with the results of Upload.

To calculate bandwidth usage, simply follow this equation:

((desired listeners)*(desired bitrate))*1.1 = usage in kbps

You can also use an online bandwidth calculator.

To use select "Concurrent Usage"

If you are interested in knowing how much transfer you would use per month, choose "Periodic Usage"
