ShoutCAST and Streaming Questions

Hello,

This has been asked time and time again, however one more time won't hurt.

Can MP3 or WAV be streamed from WinAmp to our shoutcast server and come out as OGG or what ever other format we need? If so, how, what program?

As best, can WinAmp stream OGG vorbis and come out OGG vorbis? If so how, and using what program?

What format can be used with WinAmp and Shoutcast to stream to RealOne/Player, Windows Media Player and/or QuickTime, without special software on the listeners end, except for Real, WMP and/or QT?

WinAmp=ANY VERSION
Shoutcast=LATEST VERSION

Thanks and God Bless!

The SHOUTcast DSP sends an MP3 stream.
The SHOUTcast DNAS serves an MP3 stream.

For other formats check out icecast and the SpacialAudio DSP.

For media players that work with SHOUTcast, please see this thread.

Hello,

Thanks for your relpy. Do I want Icecast or Icecast2? If Icecast2, what is the direct link to the icecast2 web site for Linux? And the same with Icecast?

Does Icecast have the same features as Shoutcast? Is it as popular?

Is it possible to have Shoutcast stream MP3, however not force the listeners to use the *.pls file, like maybe an *.m3u or what have you?

Thanks and God Bless!

Q: Do I want Icecast or Icecast2?
A: That's for you to answer.

Qs: If Icecast2, what is the direct link to the icecast2 web site for Linux? And the same with Icecast?
A: Google knows.

Qs: Does Icecast have the same features as Shoutcast? Is it as popular?
A: I don't know. There may be a feature matrix at the icecast site(s).

Q: Is it possible to have Shoutcast stream MP3, however not force the listeners to use the *.pls file, like maybe an *.m3u or what have you?
A: The latest DNAS can use listen.pls or listen.m3u for the default listen link. The DNAS uses listen.pls on the generated web panel, but you can link with the m3u.

Hmmm. Ok, I guess I will have to wait for the OGG vorbis version out ShoutCAST comes out, or something.

Does Icecast 1 support OGG? Does Version 2 support OGG?

How can I force the bandwidth used by ShoutCAST to be counted towards a clients bandwidth? I have a cPanel, RedHat 7.3 server.

Thanks and God Bless!

it won't man! Thats how shoutcast is build it will not count as a client if it is Shoutcast... That would involve manipulating stream count; which is against shoutcasts rules

Hello,

Very odd discovery today. I ran a few tests streaming some media.

Used a named and IP based domain, it counts the bandwidth usage towards the user account, at least in Bandmin (domain.com/bandwidth/) which I have been told cPanel goes based off of.

Anyways, it shows as being used, just gotta wait for cPanel to update and see if it shows in cPanel.

Thanks for all of your help and God Bless!

hmm, so it's counting usage to that particular domain? It's my understanding that no hosting-in-a-box solutions (cpanel, ensim, plesk, ect ect) are able to count traffic used by user installed apps running in a shell, such as shoutcast.

if it does track it, it would count as server-wide bandwidth (such as MRTG) and not be nailed down to any particular user.

The best thing to do is charge the user for the number of listeners, using an amount that would be enough to cover BW fees if they maxed it out (worse case). This is how most stream hosts work these days -- nobody charges bandwidth fees on shoutcast servers.

Hmm. Seems it only works for dedicated IP's. Does that sound logical?

What I am trying to do, is count it towards the clients current bandwidth.

Thanks and God Bless!
