sc trans
the other question i have is regarding the sound quality of my broadcast. i'm broadcasting at 56k but the stream sounds mono
in the log below it shows two warnings which i have been told to ignore but i can't help thinking they might be causing the problem. all of my audio is set at 192kbs (samp rate of 44100) still sounds crappy tho. even people broadcasting at 32kbs have a better sounding stream. how can i check if i am broadcasting in mono? look in your player it should indicate whether the stream is in stereo or mono.
Also LAME is not as good sounding as fraunhoffer at lower bitrates. Therefore people using fraunhoffer encoders will sound better then you at any bitrate lower then 128kbps. -Jay | Radio Toolbox.com |

You should specify your inputSampleRate and the bitrate you want to stream at for example your mp3 files are encoded at 192kbs and you want to stream at 24kbs then the lines below should be your correct setting in sc_trans.conf file:
InputSampleRate=44100 InputChannels=2 Bitrate=24000 SampleRate=22050 Channels=1 |

kncaptain that setting has no effect. Therefore it is pointless to set it.

it works fine on my machine. So you don't need multiple bitrate mp3 to serve multiple bitrate stream.

adding the setting u mentioned above helped removed the warning i was getting <09/19/03@05:54:38> [CONFIG] WARNING: No InputSamplerate defined, assuming 44100! <09/19/03@05:54:38> [CONFIG] WARNING: No InputChannels defined, assuming 2 thanx heaps....i have my current setting at 56kbs and samp rate at 44100 with 2 channels but still sounds mono. will eventually upgrade to 96kbs but have tested this ans still does not sound as stereo as others KXRM i am using itunes to tune in and it doesnt show if the stream is playing instereo or mono although i can definately tell the difference between other station and mine perhaps someone could tune in and let me know how it sounds for them and if it really is stereo.... http://honor.fast-serv.com:8228/listen.pls |

it is in stereo. You might want to downsample the stream though set to sample rate to 22050. 56k is not ideal for 44.1khz stereo broadcasting.
My point is that sctrans only converts from 44.1khz stereo so that is why it's pointless to set, the warning does nothing to effect the quality of the stream, if anything it's just annoying. -Jay | Radio Toolbox.com |

sounds like a 56kbps broadcast to me, but I am not much of an audiophile about it. However I would lower the sample rate to 22050

try it and find out.
I don't think you need to re-encode your stuff to do it, it's just a config setting. -Jay | Radio Toolbox.com |
