Shared Hosting
Hi:
I'm trying to host a Shoutcast server on our website space through our hosting provider (it's a Linux system). I emailed them, let them know what I planned to do and got shell access to allow me to activate the DNAS. I've set the configuration up and started the server...not getting any error messages but I can't connect from to either send my stream up or listen to it on the other end. Everything just times out and the server log shows nothing trying to connect. I've done a trace to our website and from the shell verifying the IP address is correct and I'm not getting any messages that the port is already in use. The catch appears to be...in one of the emails I received from them they mentioned that our site is in a shared hosting environment. I've searched through the forums and the other docs on the shoutcast site and I can't find anything to tell me if this is something good or bad...and if it is bad, is it something that can be overcome. The only other thing I can think is that I set up the shoutcast server in a subdomain folder...does that make any difference? Any help would be much appreciated. ~David |
