Motherboard Woes

I just bought an Asus A7V600 motherboard and a shiny Athlon XP processor to go with it.

I installed the motherboard no problems at all, but I have two problems.

The first is that the USB does not seem to be working. Although my mouse (MS Optical Intellimouse) powers (because the light is on), when I move it it does not work. I have treid it on all the USB ports on the motherboard, but no joy.

Second, and most importantly, the keyboard hangs up. During the boot process, i can press the keys and get into the BIOS etc, but when windows has loaded, the NUM LOCK light stays on, and it acts as if the PC has crashed, although it hasn't. The Keyboard is a PS/2.

Anyone got any ideas?

Does anything work on the USB ports. (scanner, camera ...).
Did the mouse come with one of those adapters that let you plug it into the PS/2 port.
Latest Intellitype and Intellipoint.
Can you get into safe mode
Any yellow question marks in 'Device Manager'

I got a solution for ya, take it back to point of purchase, demand replacement or refund.

Simple.

You know I am thinking of that. My Overdraft is a bit battered

But I do need to upgrade my mobo ASAP.

Checked through all the features in the BIOS ?
Turn off any 'wake on ...' type features, the sleep key used to screw up on mine.

Did you set up the mobo or did the store do it for you? Either way, I'd get someone to check the connections of the USB, because power is rigged up okay but the data cable might be connected wrong (if it is two cables, been a while since I set my mobo up).

make sure that you have the support for a USB mouse enabled in the BIOS, and as for the keyboard, I have had windows declare the driver for the keyboard corrupt before, so once you get the mouse going, you can see if that is the problem.

Hmmm. Did you re-install after changing motherboards?

If you didnt, do that now.

Was thinking the same myself--- Doesn't it mean that the system is installed/configured to the MB? i.e. if your using the original HD , then the system will be trying to run as if it's configured to your old MB.
I'd also look at your USB setting's in BIOS....I had probs with mine being set to 'Legacy'. Had to turn 'Legacy' off to get my USB ports working properly. I was using an AMD at the time with a VIA chip-set on the MB.
Soon as I turned the legacy option of in BIOS they worked fine...as for your key-board...haven't a clue- but can only assume again that the prob. is re-installing your OS.
Hope you get sorted Bilbo and nice to see you back
