Sad Songs.
Sad songs anyone? The tunes you shouldn't really listen to before setting off for work.
Sparklehorse - Apple Bed I could follow on now with 50 x Smiths tracks. |

Alphaville - Forever Young
That has to be the saddest song I've ever heard... but ironically, that is Alphaville's biggest hit to date. |

Garth Brooks: The Dance (still hard for me to listen to this song in it's entirity, went to a couple of funerals where this was played)
Taps: with echo bugglers (same reasoning as above) Somewhere Over The Rainbow (the kid who's funeral I had gone to was only 13, and his choir director sang it at the service, changed the whole tone and meaning of hte song for me) |

heres the lyrics: Fighting soldiers from the sky Fearless men who jump and die Men who mean just what they say The brave men of the Green Beret. Silver Wings upon their chest These are men, America's best One hundred men will test today But only three win the Green Beret. Trained to live off nature's land Trained in combat, hand to hand Men who fight by night and day Courage picked from the Green Beret. Silver Wings upon their chest These are men, America's best One hundred men will test today But only three win the Green Beret. Back at home a young wife waits Her Green Beret has met his fate He has died for those oppressed Leaving her his last request. Put Silver Wings on my son's chest Make him one of America's best He'll be a man they'll test one day Have him win the Green Beret. aside from that is the song "this time" by the smashing pumpkins. the first time i heard it was the day i broke up with my girlfriend. not fun Never underestimate the bandwidth of a station wagon full of tapes hurtling down the highway. |

And why is that whenever you have a "split" every sad song created just seems to play on the radio? Weird how that happens.

Megumi Hayashibara - Yakusoku
Aaron Lewis - Black (Pearl Jam cover) Ok, so the last song is more depressing than sad, but since it's a break-up song, it reminded me of some damn good times cut short...
A very close Japanese friend I knew a while ago once said to me "Watashi no koto wo oboeta, onegai shimasu...Yakusoku?" I forgot his name though... |

Radiohead is definately one of those bands...I think How to Disappear Completely and Street Spirit (Fade Out) are their saddest songs. Another one is Brad Nowell's (of Sublime) acoustic cover of Guava Jelly/This Train. Black is a good one (well depends on how you look at it)..Pearl Jam's or Aaron Lewis's cover. Pearl Jam's unplugged version is awesome.

Underworld - Dirty Epic
Primal Scream - Stuka Both tracks would sit well on the Trainspotting soundtrack. Drugs and destitution all-round. |
