is this possible?
im setting up a radio station as a project at college and i need one stream to be quite low quality for 56k'ers and below, and one for people with faster connection, cable modem users etc. |

yes you need to run 2 shoutcast servers (they can be both on the same machine so long as they run on different ports). You then use winamp with the DSP plug in to stream the same playlist to the Hi quality server and to the lo quality server using the 5 encoder and 5 output options (thus allowing you to stream the same playlist to up to 5 different servers/bandwidths).

Which is the easiest way to put up two streams? The only thing working for me is messing with the config everytime I start the stream, which isn't really practical.
Having two streams in consequetive port numbers doesn't do it for me or am I doing something wrong? |

The DNAS needs portBase and portBase+1 free.
Good example: DNAS #1 : portBase = 8000 -> 8001 DNAS #2 : portBase = 8002 -> 8003 Bad example: DNAS #1 : portBase = 8000 -> 8001 DNAS #2 : portBase = 8001 -> error ********************* Check out the Sticky post titled: SHOUTcast: Important Info & Answers to FAQs.
