Does a hybred player require a hybred skin?

You can use certain WA2 elements (bmp's and txt files) inside the rootfile of a wal file and certain elements especially in the playlist will override the settings/specifications in the wa3 skin.
Key among these are the pledit.txt and the genex.bmp. They do not effect the way the skin works in WA3, but if you noticed your text and background colors and some elements in the scrollbars and headers of the library are not exactly what you expected in WA5, give it a try.

This also works for the Mikro.bmp, you can make that plugin work with a WA3 skin.
