Full AAC Support
For the wishlist, I'd like to request that WinAmp's AAC support fully supports and recognizes iTunes ripped AAC files.
Thanks! |

Please search around, there have been many threads on this topic. The reason for not supporting iTunes AAC is because they use an MPEG-4 container for it, which nullsoft do not have a license to use at present. The Winamp AAC implementation uses an MPEG-2 container (like MP3) which does not require licensing. Ironically the AAC song data is identical only the wrapper format is different. However there are 3rd party plugins for Winamp that support the MPEG-4 AAC implementation (see above thread). If you pull one of these down you will be able to open your iTunes files in Winamp. This is not a Winamp issue really. More a corporations vs. the free world issue a la freedb vs. gracenote issue. Seb

I found a file named in_faad.dll in my computer (zipped in the Psytel encoder), does it support MPEG4-AAC?
