arn't napster and itunes too expensive

Ok i went to the napster site and the first thing it tells me is that individual songs are for 99c each and albums are $9.95 each ditto for itunes. now i don't know about the U.S. but over here that translates to roughly the same price as buing a cd in the local music store. i expected both napster and itunes to be a lot cheaper cause come, on the whole idea should be to get rid of the huge amounts of money charged by the recording companies. i don't mind paying for my music as long as it goes to the artist instead into the already fat pockets of the record companies. what say people?

I think it's pretty crazy to pay that much for music that is of less quality than what you could get on a CD. What I think needs to happen is that CD prices need to drop a lot. I really don't want to pay $20+ for an album, but I don't want to download a whole album for $10.

widdy that was dirrty. you have a dirrty mind. the thing im worried about is that cd prices will drop but only the suggested retail price and not the whole price to the record companies

FOR EXAMPLE
record company lets call them RIAAA sells cds to stores for 12 bucks store sells cds to you for 18 dollars. RIAA drops the price of wholesale to 10 dollars (a small price drop) but also drops the suggested retail price to 12 dollars taking out a whole lot of profit from cds to stores.

this means only big retail stars like walmart and target are able to sell cds and not be ugh forced to close. mom and pop cd shops lose their primary source of profit and they go out of business. now with cd music in the hands of a few retailers RIAA has more control over supply and demand and can once again rais prices.

The price of CD's is dropping in the US but the wholesale price isnt dropping in corelation to the retail price so in a few years again if the internet phenominon doesnt squish RIAA and the vice versa happens (RIAA squishes internet phenominon) than music prices will sky rocket.

Which is why downloading is better than buying music in stores. Download for free or from an online retailer (just not buymusic.com).

I'm Back?

hey whiteflip excellent point. that is the main reason why i believe that online music is better. however for it to be really effective it should be directly from the artist to the consumer otherwise the record companies will fuck the whole thing up again.
