Automatically create playlist based on folder an audio file is located in

Is it possible to allow Winamp to automatically create a playlist based on the folder an audio file is located in? Ex. All mp3s under the 'Rock' folder will be included in the dynamically created 'Rock' playlist everytime I select that playlist.

Make an .m3u playlist with just C:\Music\Rock in and then Winamp will add all files itself. But there is no Winamp magic to do this for you.

Not to revive a semi old thread... but I found this on the wikipedia under M3U. I didn't know that Nullsoft created the m3u either. I don't know how accuarate that is... but impressive still.

This example shows how to create an m3u file linking to a specified folder (Flash drive, CD-ROM, for example). The m3u file should contain only one string: the path to the folder. After starting up, the media player will play all contents of the folder:

C:\Music

Yep... all correct. And here's the direct link to Wikipedia M3U (if anyone's interested).

btw... J_Darnley already indicated that procedure earlier on in this thread...

Winamp will play all media content inside the "Rock" folder.

yeah he did... That will teach me to read the thread again instead of just letting a piece of information spark my memory. Oh well... Maybe something else on that page will help someone.

Thanks Nunz

Is there a way to specify a relative file/folder path using m3u? Also, is it possible to specify subdirectories in m3u? That way, even if I move the folders or files the playlist will still work.

You should be able to use as many directories as you want. As for relative paths, that should work too but only down (which direction is C:\dir1 -> C:\dir1\dir2 ?) the tree. Up might work but I have never tried.

Another option would be to create a ML Smart View with a "Filename Contains SomePath" style filter.
