starting sc_serv

This is the scenario....I got a third party host but i have to set up the shoutcast myself. I downloaded the files from shoutcast and uploaded them with ws_ftp pro to where they should be. I understand that i need to start the file called sc_serv...but how do i do this. If i highlight the file and choose excecute it opens a window asking me which program i want to open it in??? is this right and if so which program should i use?

you cannot execute things from inside an FTP client and expect them to execute on the server. You need shell access for that.

are you sure in your in the right server of your Shell?

also the above code isn't absolutly truth I hope you know.
/to/shoutcast/directory doesn't exist, however you'll need to know the directory to your shoutcast.

Edit: It's buffering a lot, try lowering the bitrate.

Permissions

Hey all,

I set the permissions for sc_serv to be _rwxr_xr__. The command I used to do this is:

chmod 754 sc_serv.

Jay would you say this should be how the permissions should be set?

and btw: Is there anyway to control the amount of delay from live encoding to the listener. I have found delays up to 2 minutes and as low as 4 to 5 seconds. Any reason for this behavior?
