Fixed Delay...is it possible ?
Who can answer this question:
Why is Shoutcast not a fixed time delay from server to listener? 2nd. Are there any development of a new version of the DNA server which would take care of this problem? I find it perfectly fine that there is a delay...not a problem. Though what I would like to see is that its somewhat the same all the time and for all listeners. Having seen delays changing from up to over 2 minutes and down to less than 5 seconds seems to be a bit more variation than what would be expected of the server. Jakob suite108.com |

It is a fixed delay
![]() It all depends on the bitrate. Delays may vary upon location. |

How does it work ?
OK if it is a fixed delay...how long is it ?
Please explain in depth how the bitrate changes delays, I would like to know specifics. I understand that the delay can vary a bit depending upon location because of network differences. Jakob |

the shoutcast has an internal buffer of 1MB so if you have a higher bitrate then you will have less delay because it will not take as many seconds of data to fill that buffer. The delay will vary depending on the buffer settings at the client and the type of network between your server and the client player.

Jay, Great that was the answer I was looking for. So ofcourse if Im streaming in 16 kbit I would have to devide 1024 with 16 and I would know how many seconds the buffer delays the signal. Simple!
oh btw. Will this buffer be changable in the next version of Shoutcast DNA ? Now do you know if this is explained in FAQs. It would seem like an important piece of information. And would remove a lot of questions in the forum. Thanks so much for the help, Jakob |
