WA5 rc10 Library Plugins
So I finnaly decided to download rc10 (I was still using rc8 cause I didn't know if rc10 was oficial, and I still don't know if it is
) and I was browsing around the menus when I come across this Library Plugins section.I got curious and did a search around the forum but I didn't find much (I'm not that much of a browser ) so I decided open a new thread and ask if anyone knows just how these plugins work and, if it's possible, point me to a few examples.I thank you in advance, Dextro - da Tweakmastah! jk

cool, i just looked at it and am pretty curious too - the library already rocks, i can't think of any useful plugins that havn't already been implemented.

Well there was one called Hydra ML that made an "i-Tunes"-esque network sharing mode, built right into Winamp (independent of I-tunes, of course.). I would love that, but it doesnt work. Apparently, it was for 2.9x and the developer hasnt updated it yet.

Anyone know of a plugin for connecting to a Lyra mp3 player?
I can't stand using the crappy MusicCrap Jokebox software that is required. Also the plugin would need to convert .mp3 to .mpy for the Lyra to read, which sucks too. |

Hydra ML
The plugin works with Winamp5 now. I have Winamp5rc10, and it works... more or less. It's a bit clunky, but it does work.

I think it's best to wait until the updated version (if it's ever comming out) or until someone creates a similar plugin.

New suggestion?
First, I am sooo glad winamp finally has a decent media library. With ratings/sql based "views" or smart playlists etc. it's nearly perfect. Honestly I practically stopped listening to my music for a while because it was too much of a nightmare to sort through the tracks. Just used "shuffle everything" most of the time but that exposed a few problems.
So, as far as the medialibrary goes, there is one major flaw (when comparing against my useability criteria, no insult to the fine product winamp already is) however. There doesn't seem to be anyway to use fields other than the default set for column headers or for the sql/views/smartlists. While they are obviously a good starting point, they limit what can be done with the powerful sql views. A lot of my music already has "mood", "tone" or "style" tags and these currently can't be used. What I'd love is a plugin (or the feature built into winamp) to allow the extension of the useable tags. There is going to be a problem with .ogg vs. mp3 tagging systems. It seems to be possible to work around though. The user should be able to set mapping so that "Fieldx" in an ogg tag maps to "Mood" and "Fieldy" in an mp3 tag also maps to "Mood" or something similar. Then the views just need to be based on looking for the "Mood" value regardless of file type. The main reason for this is that I find I'm using mp3s (read ogg, aac etc.) much more often than CD's now, and I want to add ALL of my music to my PC, whether or not I want to listen to it very often. For example, my wife has a few CDs that I really don't want to hear. However, I want them stored so that she can use them in her playlists. What I want to do is add a tag in the files called "Wife_Music = YES" or similar. Now you can use dynamic playlists much more easily. There are a myriad of other uses ("Live = YES", or "Album_Track = YES" etc.), but currently I can't find any player that will handle this. It would allow for much easier creation of new playlists etc. if you could just open a view that by default does or doesn't include files based on these extra tags. Currently the only option is to add all of these details to the comments tag, but that's a bit of a hack. Eg "Comment=Wife_Music=NO, Album_Track=YES" and then define funky queries taking all of this into account. It's clunky and ugly though. What do you all think? (and sorry for the long post). I'll leave this suggestion here for a while but if no one seems to notice it I might start a new thread. Cheers. |

Excelent sugestion.
I've eared someone talk about that before though, I think it was at the winamp5 rc8 official thread (too long to read through, soz ).In fact custom Tags would be great (aldo I think that LIVE=1/0 should already be there by defaul since half my songs are recorded live :P), that way we could, like you said, create random playlists more suited to our needs. It would be great if we could get some sort of plugin to maybe switch at a given rate between the mood of the tracks, that way when we were sad we could call up a playlist that would cheer up the music slowly, that would be cool We left here some ideas for library plugins, hope someone picks them up.

I mentioned that in the RC8 official thread, and I'll just mention it again here...excellent idea. It'd be really, really great for we classical collectors, since we could have one tag for performer and another for composer. Wow, that'd be really nice.

Maybe I'm blind and I'm not noticing an option, but it'd be nice if the selection bar and display in the ML could be set to follow the currently playing song. This would make it much easier to rate songs, aside from simply being a nice feature.

For what its worth I really liked the Hydra ML plugin too, and after failing to get hold of the author implemented a very similar plugin. Unfortunately for the love of me I can't seem to get it to work with 2.95etc, but it works fine with winamp 5.0x and it handles very large media libraries very easily.
The version i'm pointing you towards is a little out of date now, and a little buggy, my home one's a lot more up to date, if you want it let me know : http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....57#post1287357 |
