Speaker trouble...

I just reformatted the computer and now I am having some sucky trouble. For some reason I can only hear one channel of audio... The left channel doesnt work. I do however hear music from my left speaker but that music is from the left channel. if i move the balance slider to the left i get nothing. Like I said i just reformatted my computer. But it is setup normal. The problem isnt just with winamp either, it is with the built in kazaalite theatre and windows media player and all system wide audio. I have installed winamp 2.91, wmp 9 (and all updates), klite codec pack. My hardware is intel integrated audio and stock dell harmon/kardon speakers. Any ideas??? I am absolutely baffled...

Did you check the speaker cable, did the plug get bumped?

Did you try the Windows mixer?
Double click on the little speaker icon in the sys-tray
-or-
Start button > Run... > type sndvol32 press enter

yeah, i tried all of the obvious stuff. But i tested it last night and i think the connection is going bad in the back. Or the cables we use to connect the speakers are going bad. How could that be the case though? Because i rearely move them or unplug them. They just sit there how could they wear out?

Maybe a design flaw or just a bad pair of cables. Have you tried plug-in in a pair of head phones in to the back. Do you only hear one channel?

After reformatting did you install the latest (recently updated) sound drivers?
