You people are retards.

For several reasons. First, even though Nullsoft is controlled by AOL, it's not necessarily a bad thing. If any of you 'complainers' actually read the forum you'd know what was going on. The reason the 'PRO' version costs money is because Nullsoft has to pay for CD burning rights on a per-license basis, and they're simply passing some of this cost on to the conumer.

They might have AOL ads all over the site, and they might install AOL icons with the player, and AOL might delay final releases and such. But Winamp is still by FAR the best A/V player for the Windows operating system, and there's really no way to argue that point. By being controlled by AOL, the developers aren't QUITE as much the 'starving artists' they were before. And judging by the plugins and overall compatibility of Winamp with everything else, AOL hasn't really gotten its grubby hands all over yet.

I've seen this griping ever since Winamp added video support. Maybe some developing time went to video instead of improving audio performance, but I don't see anywhere where audio performance suffers because of added video support. If you want to keep bitching, switch to another player. And as far as paid versions go, I think I'll just mail them a check instead of buying Pro.

This may be local to my geography, but "retard" possesses a entirely different connotation to "retarded"... "retarded" meaning "limited or held back in development" and "retard" being a synonym for "wilful idiot".

BTW, does anyone else bother to install the video functionality? I can't see me choosing it over Media Player Classic. I'd be happier if the media library came in the lite download.

I use the video, only because I like to use one player for everything, and Winamp does the job just fine. I keep MPC around for the odd file Winamp won't play, but that is growing smaller and smaller all the time.

personally i think its kinda funny that AOL adds the AOL icons and stuff.

personally i think the only time i ever installed them (if i did at all) was the first ever time i installed winamp 2.x

i don't even live in the US, so i mean honestly AOL can't get any money out of me anyway because there are no services they offer me.

i don't even know what AOL art extensions are, and i don't even know what an AOL internet connection entails (somthing about a browser i dunno)

so yeah i must agree the AOL influence here hasn't been detrimental.

personally i'd LOVE to see Winamp go opensource, i think it would flourish, but as it is now i am likeing it

i didn't install most of it though, (one of the best installers i have ever seen actually, offers so many options)

I don't know about the other versions of Winamp, but on WInamp 5.0 There is a option for AOL or not. When you install there is a checkbox that says "Add AOL Icon" or something like that.

Hehehehe, I like this thread.

Any who... I have to agree with cebaily, I'd rather hand the developers the check than give AOL any more of my money. Oh wait... I don't pay for my AOL connection. Hmmm...

I'm a WA girl, so, to all the naysayers.

There's an option in the installer to not to install the AOL icon did you know? (I've seen it there since 2.8x I think).

[rant mode]
List of retard companies:
  1. AOL
  2. M$
  3. Time Warner ( )

yes, I hate people who make money.
Die DIEDIEDIEDIEDIE

Really, why hate, AOL bailed out Nullsoft and while slowly firing everyone there, have been funding the company since it almost went under.

You're probably still using Microsoft's systems in some fashion, so you must hate them so much you've converted to Linux and threw out your xbox.

Time Warner is AOL, but the simple fact that you probably went to see some of thier movies this summer (The Matrix 1,2,3) then you must not hate them that much.

Please. Get your head out of your ass. kthnx

well said Fickle i really hate ppl that when nothing changes in terms of quality they bitch and wine, like when blizzard was taken over by vivindi ppl whent and through huge fits, i could just picture them throwing out their comp out the window, or storming to vivindi's headquarters and turning that into a gamers version of colombine

those n00bs make me laugh, and well i guess they arnt that bad aslong as they just throw their fit and it doesnt change anything, its when ppl listen to them when things get bad

and btw ppl do need to know that winamp 5 is released, mabey u guies should get some publicity on some other sites that would be great

Edit: Wrong Quote
