Min Requirements and Live TV
I'm looking to use NSV for sharing my TV to my laptop when I'm away from home or in another room . . . I have a box currently with Windows 98 but can switch to linux - doesn't have to be amazing quality and I think it's a P166 with 128MB Ram and the TV Card is an old All in Wonder Pro PCI 8MB card so I'm sure it would work linux. I'd prefer to go the linux route for stability but my sister would like to continue using it occasionally - my main question is will this system be able to handle the encoding necessary to encode a live video stream from the ATI card and what are the optimal settings? I realize it's probably way underpowered but is it even possible with a lower quality?

teoretically, yes start with settins like 8khz 8 kbps audio, and vp6 realtime with settings resolution <=192x144 at max 5 fps may work

Ok found out it's 350Mhz PII with 128MB Ram . . . so a little better . . . Giving it a try now to see - hopefully I won't end up with a 1 inch by 1 inch slide show

Why would you use internet TV streaming to view another computer you own?
Simple download and install VNC from www.realvnc.com which will allow you remote access to the computer, with a password. you will then be able to view/control both PCs to your hearts content. |
