First, before starting new threads, please do use the search feture of the forums. Your question has been asked many times and answered the same...
Winamp 5.01 is Win32, that is - it can be run on Windows only. That said, you can try and load it on your Linux distro. via WINE. Give it a try. You can also try Wasabi.Player (it is not supported nor in any stage of real point in using as your dialy player, IMO). |

ye i understand and im aware of that but can't we do something to make winamp ompatibility i think that the linux comunity will support something like that and it hasn't got to be open source to get support

Wasabi.Player (formarly known as Winamp3 in case you didn't get that...) has more than 90% of its code as open-source.
I don't see Winamp 5.xx ever going open-source... |

I run Wasabi.Player successfully under mandrake linux. It's perfect. And I've ran winamp 5 under WINE, but wasn't happy with performance, so I'm happy with Wasabi.Player for now

Ya, WINE will run 5.XX in Linux (Ive got Mandrake Linux and Red Hat Linux), but there will be performance issues. Your best bet is to go with Wasabi.Player(Winamp3). Thats what I use anyways. Good luck man.(2.XX will also run under WINE, and with Red Hat, I dont know why, but it tends to have better performance than 5.XX

i don't want to use wine and i dislike winamp3 so i belive that winamp 5.xx would be perfect if it could go for linux not as an open source linux don't need this just as close source free programm.
I think that it would be great if i could use such a programm under linux and it will be the best mp3 solution at the moment |

Oh really...? Then how come Winamp3 was (is...) a cross-platform media player? Hmm?

Winamp 5 is essentialy Winamp 2 so it should work as long as you're using Classic skins, it'll probably get glitchy if you'll use Modern skins.

I've gotten winamp(s) 2,3,5 to work under wine. also all three worked with free form skins.
