DSP Recording bitrate

I'm using the old DSP (1.80 I think) to send a low bandwidth stream to Shoutcast (since the new ones don't support the lower bandwidths) and I want to record my stream. I've checked the config box to create a recording and I do indeed get an mp3. But I'm streaming at 22Kbs, 11kHz mono yet my recordings are at 50Kbps. I can't see anywhere that I can configure a recording bitrate so why is my recording at 50kbs and can I change it?

I've also tried streamripper and that gives the bitrate as 49kbs.

Many thanks for any insights you have.
