Close Encounters...

The film Close Encounters is on ..Made me wonder what folk actually do think on it ..

Is There? or Isn't There? I know me and me mates used to drive all over Cumbria, Northumberland, Yorkshire with CB's looking for em.. Has any one here seen one? now that'd be interesting.......

It's hard to say what would be alien and what would be just an advanced military aircraft. Due I believe aliens exist, yes, cause technically we are aliens, aliens to other planets, like mars, etc. but do I believe that UFOs in the sky are aliens? now that's a hard question to answer. due to the fact of having very little information or facts about real UFOs to answer it.

so I picked "undecided"

If you look hard enough and want it that much you will see something, no matter what's up there. Personally i think that there is most probably some form of life out there. For starters there's bacteria on mars. Now imagine how many planets there must be out there. Surely life could exist elsewhere. I don't think they're flying around up there though.

UFO= Unidentifiable Flying Object
There are definitly hundreds of thousands of UFOs spoted every day. They might be just chunks of crap in the sky, airplanes, or top-secret military things, whatever they are, they exist.

UFO's, meaning flying alien spaceships here on earth, I find highly unlikely. My first point is, if an alien race had the technology to travel thousands of lightyears to get here to earth, why would they just float around, stay hidden and abduct people living in trailer parks? I myself beleive that somewere out in the universe their is other life on many planets, and some of those planets also have intelligent life, with mental capabilities equal if not greater then ours (develouped speech, abstract thought, complex behavior, creativity, emotions, etc...). That then brings us the topic about what is requrired for an organism to be "intelligent", but that has nothing to do with this.

On a side-note, I have seen UFO's in both senses of the word, but all of the UFO's of the alien type have been while under the use of various controlled substances...

Well, I believe that somewhere in the Universe, there are intelligent life forms but if they were smart enough to build a space ship and travel far enough to visit us, they'd probably have better things to do than fly around out planet and watch us boring people, we're not that interesting after all I believe so I think the UFOs are a huge hoax or whatever....
I did believe in them in 7th grade though when I was a huge X files fan!

I did mean obviously the alien kind. one of the arguments seems to be that if they can fly light years through space, why would they just hang about sneakily abducting folk etc.
Not sure my self but I'd say would you just Pop in i.e. land - hi we come in peace - bang!. About what I reckon would happen knowing our planets track record.

I do believe that in all probability there is other life forms taht exist within the universe who are thousands of years more advanced than us. As to wether they have visited here? well I think that at least one or two different races have considering the eveidence taht does exist.
A lot of it though I do put down to over active imagination and over use of certain substances. I reckon we will one day have open contact with other species within our universe but it'll be a long way off.
I'd like to be around to see what happens etc...

Anyone reckon Roswell actually happened or not?

Well, there are way too many planets, way too many galaxies, way too many possibilities for us to be the only things that have evolved.

If we are to think that, we are truly ignorant.

Statistically, there HAS to be life out there. Out of billions of planets, millions of which could easily support life (as we know it), we cannot be the only evolved, sentient life forms in the infinite expanse.

Now, Mia makes a good point about whether a civilization with the technology required to traverse the light years to reach us would want to hover over trailer parks in Arkansas and desert highways in Nevada, or do something more constructive. We're not talking Coneheads, here. If they have the technology to reach us, they'll also have the technology to either scan us completely from a great distance (orbit of Jupiter, perhaps), or "cloak" their presence from us while they do some closer reconnaissance. Extraterrestrials that can "warp" 10+ light years aren't coming here to make frikkin' circles in corn fields.

I believe in the existance of extraterrestrials. It's statistically impossible for them NOT to exist.

But here's a multiple choice question: If you have the incentive to explore the universe and the technology to go anywhere and do anything, when you get to earth are you going to...

A. Make crop circles.
B. Terrorize rednecks.
C. Make friendly contact with world leaders.
D. Enslave the human race and take over.

C or D are the most likely options, depending on benevolence (or lack thereof). A and B just aren't going to happen...unless Dumb and Dumber build a spaceship.

Edit: And I'll beat all the funnyheads to the punch..."A, then B, and then D." Right?

I don't believe in aliens anymore, not after I mistook my own flying frisbee for a UFO...

Ants fell off of it when I caught it...They must have mysteriously appeared there when my friend passed it back to me, so I'm not so certain anymore...Either those ants really are aliens, or that must have been the first day I tried drugz...
