Help

I checked out the internet TV option in Winamp 5 and thought it was something I would like to try. Could someone give me links to software i must download and tutorials? I have no previous experience with this kind of thing but my brother was a DJ with Shoutcast. I did read the sticky topics above and they didn't help much, I need to talk to an actual person to learn and get help. Any help would be appreciated.

That was fast. One more question: How much would it cost to run a server and maintain it?

Send a message via AIM to ken52787
You can choose to run the server off you connection (not recommended, though possible), or to buy a good server, it usually is about $3-5 per concurrent user.

www.nsvideo.tk is back up.

I will look into alternate domain names as a backup. Seems the .tk system has been having some major problems as of late.

That depends on what type of content you stream. If you stream live video feed, you will need at least a 2.0 ghz cpu or better on your computer.

If you plan on running just video files, 1.0 ghz or better is good.

Live video encoding requires a large amount of computer resources.

Ok, so all I need to do now is set it up. There are some things confusing me on those tutorials posted above. How should I go about setting this up.This tutorial shows a list of tools. Will those be the only ones I need. The other sections tell me I need more software. I want to be able to let tops, 30 people watch. A little help would be appreciated.

You can follow the getting started checklist www.nsvideo.tk

Check list for starting your own Winamp TV station using Nullsoft Video.

What type of content will you broadcast :

Live or capture – Live encode : Live capture tutorial

Encode video files – Information : How to encode existing video files into NSV format
Adding graphics or logos to NSV video files : Logo – Adding logos to new NSV video
Creating a playlist with the Nsvscsrc GUIs : GUI - ken52787 and slavas GUI software user guide

Copyright rules do apply to Winamp TV broadcasting. It is highly recommended that you request written authorization from the copyright holder of any material prior to broadcasting. These authorizations should be kept on file.

What type of video encoding will you use :

VP3

Information : User guide for VP3 Codec

VP6

Encode : Setting up VP6 codec
Information : User guide for VP6 Codec
Nullsoft Video format only supports these (VP3, VP5, VP6) video codecs developed by ON2.

VP3 is a open source video codec sponsored by ON2 software. It can be used for commercial or personal use without need for licensing.

VP6 is a closed source video codec developed by ON2 software. It does not require licensing for personal use, but does require licensing for commercial use.

What type of audio encoding will you use :

MP3
Standard component
AAC
Information : Audio encoding with AAC
Broadcasting your Winamp TV stream :

Hosting your own Shoutcast server – Information : How to set up a Shoutcast server
Commercial service – use your favorite search engine to find a NSV streaming host

VP6 is free for Non Commercial use.

AAC has a better resolution / fidelity at low bandwidths when compared to MP3.

Is there a certain amount of users you can have before it becomes commercial use? Or what?

I'm guessing that commercial use is whether or not you plan to make money from using the codec, or whether the codec will be used by an organisation, like AOL or BBC.

You don't need a CPU that fast if all you're going to do is run a webcam stream. I've done it on my AMD Duron 1 GHz. CPU and have done so quite effectively.

This all depends on how high of a bitrate you want to go and the screen resolution.

Now I agree with you on this Sankt. Streaming LIVE video from scratch DOES require a sizable amount of computer resources, but it all depends on how you configure your station setup though.

Hope this helps DarkX

Cheers for now & Happy Holidays everyone

OK, following all the help and the tutorial above this is what I have done so far. I have downloaded and installed the following:

1) Shoucast DNAS
2) NSV Tools
3)nsvscrcGOOEY v0.5
4)the NSV encoder interface for VP6
5)the shoutcast "be a dj" broadcast software

I configured the Maxusers, portbase and password in the Shoutcast DNAS.

Went into Winamp then to the Shoutcast Source and configured it.

I'm still goin. Anything you would like to know to help me or something I should know plesae tell.

ALSO! here: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....1040011#nsvenc it says this: 1. Setup
Open the command prompt an change the directory to the NSVtool folder (Default: C:\Program Files\NSVenc).

could someone explain that to me?

Are you talking about the command line syntax or some thing else ? You need to be a bit more specific.

Encoding NSV Video Files (NSV Batch Encoder GUI)
WARNING: The NSV Batch Encoder seems to be a little buggy and likes to crash sometimes. If you have problems with it use the command line encoder.
