License
If I start a radio started for Educational use do I need a license for SHOUTcat (does it count as a commercial license?). Do I also need a UK Internet Radio License? Where do I get licenses to broadcast the songs? As this is a school it has to be offical. Plz answer my questions. Thanks

The rules/laws vary depending on the source location.
For folks in the U.S.A. (and others wanting a good read), try this for starters. For a more definitive answer, please consult legal assistance. Please see this thread for royalty options via SWCast. -- Michael |

I believe the organization in the UK is MCPS or PRS. Might do a websearch and see what you find.

I have looked into getting one of these licenses. It will be for a school so I may get an educational discount. Does anyone know what this actually costs. The station itself will be non-profit.

You wrote: "If I start a radio started for Educational use do I need a license for SHOUTcat" Is not Shoutcast who needs a license, is you and the music you broadcast. Now, I found some news for out of U.S. Read here if you are interested: http://www.webcastersofamerica.com/news.htm
The one about the global crackdown, that is about file swappers, another thing not Shoutcast, but it seems to me that something is coming, a new tool for the SoundExchange to track performances. |

I think shoucast101 is in the UK. You need to contact
http://www.mcps.co.uk http://www.prs.co.uk http://www.ppluk.com/ The licenses you get are valid for all music, the various organisations have deals with other countries euqivelent organaisations to collect royalties for each other. |
