Winamp opening and closing right away

I finally decided to update my winamp. I've always used 2.91. I installed winamp5 in a seperate directory to test it out. However, I found that whenever I tried to start it, it would open itself and close it right away. I would not even get to see the winamp window. If I clicked on a specific media file, it would freeze the windows explorer window I was in.
I then decided to uninstall winamp5 from its seperate directory, and install it overtop of my winamp2 directory. This also was a fruitless attempt, and caused the same problem.
I'm stuck as to what to do.

-nForce 2 Integrated audio (latest drivers, I think)
-ATI Radeon 9000 Pro (latest drivers)
-1 GB ram
