Tarot

Okay, over my Christmas Hiatus from the big black box that suck my energy and will to live (the internet/PC experience), I went over my cousins quite a bit.
My cousin got a deck of tarot cards for Christmas. I thought it was a pretty weird gift, as Tarot cards are considered by most who believe in Christ to be evil, and since its Christ's day, etc etc. Who cares I thought it was funny.

Anyway, He read my fortune. no big deal. You're supposed to think of a question while you shuffle your deck, but this time, I didn't.

Subsequently, my current attitudes and such shit seemed to place themselves well. At least, they were fairly on point. My future even sounded good.

Then three nights later Me and a bunch of my relatives got together and the cards made a second appearances. This was a bad thing, I assure you.

No one got a good reading. We had been drinking quite a bit, and I had learned that I was supposed to think of questions I wanted answered. So we pulled them out and ran through all the four different kinds we knew of etc etc and nobody's was a good reading. Loves would fall away, great sadness....etc.
Here's where it gets really weird. When doing the Celtic formation of the cards (like the first time), Three cards were pulled that were exactly the same as the first time. They weren't terribly uplifting, but described me pretty well.
But since I had asked a question, everything came apart once we got to the future. I had the two or three other types of readings and yet they all hit these points:

1)I would come into money
2)The near future is sad or troublesome
3)Harm would come to a loved one.

Now, I don't like to believe in this shit, but it scares me when it nails my personality pretty solid, which these did. A lot. Imagine being drunk and playing with tarot cards that keep coming out wrong. Sounds like the opening to a Stephen King Book.

I talked to a friend at work today who is pretty cool and basically told me to stay away from them. She says "You'll go back to them once or twice and then you'll realize. "But seriously, Wes," she whispered, "Don't fuck with Tarot Cards or Oija boards. They're bad news."

So what are the thoughts?

Go read a book without pictures

Liquid courage and a baseball bat.

But seriously, the only way to know if the cards were right is to live life normally.

It's entirely up to you. It's the same reason numerology works - if you look for a thing, you will find that thing.

Thing is, as long as a person can look to an outside determiner, like tarot or jeebus, well then, there's no reason for that person to work for anything, is there? Everything's predetermined.

Did any of that make sense?

no, it didn't.

That's what I thought.

I spent a lot of time with superstitious Asians... I stay away from those kinds of things, mainly out of habit, but sometimes I do wonder if I did try those, would I believe any of it?

Tarot cards are set up so that no matter what cards are puklled, you can tell the story the way you want it. "oh, you got the king of cups, you will see great wealth" "oh no! the king of cups! you will soon be betraying a great friend!"

it's all bullshit.

Miss Cleo kinda ruined the whole "future-telling" thing for me...

Tarot cards are so generic it's hard to not get it right. There have been times when they've been creepily on, enough so that I stopped fucking around with them.

One time I did a reading on someone that I had just met at a party, so knew next to nothing about. Several months later we were hanging out and I found out the damn cards had painted her last month like a picture. Havn't touched them since.

The only time I tried out Tarot cards was when a friend of mine was doing a reading for me (she insisted) before the year I went to the US, you has 3 cards for each month of the year or something and she was telling me all the stuff that was going to happen, when I'll find love, money etc...I listened to it amused but didn't believe any of it but wrote it down just for fun...I left the paper at home when I left to the US and forgot all about it...after coming back a year later and cleaning up my room I found the paper - and everything on it came true, the 2 months where I should find love were the months where I met my ex boyfriend and where I got together with him etc...

This made me think but I still don't believe in it, I think it was only an accident and you can really always read it the one way or the other and even if I'd do another reading and the news were bad, I'd live my life just as before just to prove those damn cards wrong!

Don't worry Fickle, bad things happen (as well as good things!) all the time, you don't ned cards to make you notice bad things more in your life, rather concentrate on the good things!

I am a firm believer, and get my tarot read pretty regularly, as Mrs B is a very competent user and reader of the tarot. They provide many comforting thoughts and questions for me, and give me a new perspective on things.

Then the joker card indicated that they were laughing at you.

I've never tried them myself, but I would like to try it.

I for one read them. The highly negative things could have come up because of three things:

1) Somebody else was holding the fucking deck other than who it's 'joined' to.
2) They're true
3) You dumbasses held the card deck upside down by accident.

Tarot cards are nothing to scoff at. They've predicted accurately my situations and outcomes countless times. They are a powerful force, and misusing them can fuck around with you.

FIRST OF ALL -- RULES

1) Before the cards can be used, the person who owns them must wrap the deck in silk and leave them under his/her pillow for one night before doing any readings.

2) The person who owns the cards must only touch them. If somebody happens to touch the cards, the person must do a reading for them or it fucks up energies of the cards and will mar future readings. The only exception to this rule is when the questioner touches the card with his/her question. Whatever.

3) If more than half the cards are upside down (Which betrays a harsher or more negative meaning, usually but not always) you may have handled the deck upside down, and so you can turn all the cards clockwise so that the majority is Positive side up.

I believe in this, it's worked for me, and many other people. I wouldn't fuck around. Caution for you.

/edit
Actually no Dlink, it depends on the piece of paper/book you used to interpret them. Mine have very specific meanings. And the king of cups for one, (I'm not berating you for using a wrong example, I am saying how specific they are.) says this:

"Like Neptune, the king of cups reigns over the sea. His authority calms turbulent waters. He is creative and compassionate -- often a doctor or counselor.

REVERSED:
Watch out! This man is slippery as a fish..."

It all depends on where the card is in the layout, what the question is, etc...

I agree with Bilbo.

I hate tarot cards and all other psychi medium. They are so false its not funny. Someone at work once went bonkers when I said it was all lies, so I proved it to her.

I did a cold reading on her. I just looked at her and said some things;

Me : You have a friend....M? (she nods slightly) mike, michael, michelle. (she reacts on michelle)

Me : She's about 25 ish? (my friend is 25, gee I wonder if she has any friends her age?) Dark hair? (my collegue nods slightly - light hair dark hair, whats the chances I was right)

Me : She has a tatto? (my collegue is getting seriously freaked by now). It's on the base of her spine, isn't it? (she is now going pale). It's like a cross, but theres no end, sort of an upside down T? ( gee, how many 25 yr old women have an upside down T sytle tatto nowadays?)

And so it went on. I then explained it to her;

She knew someone named M......who dosen't?
I threw out a few names and picked the one she responded to
She was 25, her friends will be about that age.
She had an upside down T style tatto at the base of her spine....what are the odds one of her friends would to?
Dark hair, light hair....please?

You just need to know how to read to people. It's an awful lot easier than you think. You may believe that you are not giving anything away, but you are.

Oh, the ones recommended by your friends? I'm sure they haven't mentioned anything about you and your problems to the reader.....

It's all bunkem, rubbish, rot, codswallop.......hey, you just been conned...bravo!

It's been said that I could start an arguement in an empty room.....I see no reason to disbelieve this.

Well yes, those old hags who sit in carnies with crystal balls are fake, I mean come on. But, you could be surprised at what you find it you try things for yourself.
I've done a ouija board a couple times... Seen the paint in my room change from blue to black within seconds and then back. I've seen too much weird shit to say nothing's out there or real.

Its all in the luck of the draw, and the cards dont really have a set meaning, so you can go and fabricate your own story to them.
One of my friends have a rather large collection of yu-gi-oh cards, and brings them to school on friedays and calls it fourtion fridays. Another of my friends is very good at it. He looks at the picture and makes up a story to it.
I feel it is the same with the tarot cards.
I have no superstitions, and I do not think some card game can read my future, unless I make it happen.

I'm sorry if I offended anyone, its just that I get very annoyed when people bring these type of things up. You get the shows on tv based around these people, but they only show the edited highlights and don't include all the 'misses' they had.

It's all knowing how to read people, nothing more, nothing less. It has no impact on your life, it cannot predict the future, not can they tell you about your true self....its a con, people, its a con.

A guy once gave out horoscopes to a class in a university. He told all 30 odd students that the 'scopes corresponded to their birth date. He asked them to read the 'scope they had and mark it for accuracy. Most marked about 7/10. He then asked them to pass the 'scope they had to the person behind.......guess what? They were all exactly the same, exactly the same.

Its all a con.

It's been said that I could start an arguement in an empty room.....I see no reason to disbelieve this.

slightly off topic, but that south park episode was hilarious.

but as far as the supernatural, I don't doubt that, there was a special on (i think) A&E and they were studying ghost attacks, and this lady's husband seemed to be getting the blunt of the attacks, and while the ghost-ologist was getting reading, the husband started getting scratches on his stomach and started to bleed, and they got the whole thing on camera. It was really freaky. either the ghost was attacking him, or they did a damn good job of cgi to make it look real.

I believe I have the power to write my own path not some card deck. Incidentally, I had my palm read last year for fun: typical response from the woman. (World conquest, defeating trolls and orcs etc. You get the idea...)

I am so important I feel the need to let it be known like a liberal discovering the internets for the first time. Uh hur hur hur. I also wash myself with a rag on a stick.

I used to think like that but I'm a firm believer in psychic stuff now for one reason.

One morning I was sleeping and I had a dream where I was up on a ladder changing the sign at work. While I was up there I kept damn near falling off because some idiot was holding the ladder wierd. Then I woke up from that dream to a phone call that I needed to come in on my day off becuase someone was changing the sign, fell off, and broke his ankle.

Coincidence? I think not.

Actually, Bilbo, what's more comparable are the teachings of an evangelist - an avid interpreter with some stake in the success of their mission, whether it's monetary or merely a reciprocal confirmation of belief.

Then you have an interpretation at issue, not the thing itself. The thing then about tarot cards is that they have no intrinsic meaning as do words. Everything about them is interpretation, so that there's not even something solid to point to. (please don't argue about this point, you know damned well what I mean). I mean, at least with a parable you have a nice story about fish.

Who really cares?

I think there is something to psychic reading / predictions / whatever, but most of the time, it's simply generic bullshit that fits whatever you want it to fit. Furthermore, if you think you're going to do something, then I think you're probably going to do it.

"Whoa, no man, this one time, I got a reading, and she said I was going to come into money very shortly, and I found $100 the NEXT DAY!"....

Yeah, what about the other 100 predictions and other 10 readings?

People are too optimistic when it comes to these things.

Freedom of speech is the basic freedom of humanity. When you've lost that, you've lost everything.
