username/password authentication for streams

Hello all,

I would like to require that users supply a valid username and password in order to listen to a given shoutcast stream. The information needs to be supplied via a webpage and, if correct, Winamp should be launched and connect to the stream. I've searched on Google but haven't found anything that seems to allow for this.

My idea is to authenticate users in some way and then manage the server.rip file to add ip addresses of users before they connect to the stream. If I remove an ip address from the file (to ensure that a listener must re-authenticate before connecting to the stream again) will a connection from that ip address be dropped immediately, or is the check only performed at the start of a connection to the server?

Any suggestions or other ideas on how I can achieve this are much appreciated.

Chris
