I can't believe this hasn't been asked for.

I read the Wishlist a few times, and it's not there, and searched all open forums at least a dozen times, trying several different strings, and nothing came up, and so I'm forced to conclude that no one has bothered to ask for this. Which really surprises me, because to me it's a pretty important feature, and I can't be the only person who would use it. So here goes:

The ID3v2 standard has a tag it calls "Position in Media Set", but iTunes recognizes it and just calls it "Disc". It's just a number, like 1 or 2, that represents the CD# it is, like the second CD of a 4-CD set. (It can also be recognized as 3/4, where the second digit is the total number of CDs).

iTunes recognizes it, and so does my iPod, and I love it, because it saves me from having to write "(Disc 1)" in the Album tag, which is how I did it back in ID3v1. But that looks ugly, and also leads to a lot of directories if you put each album in its own directory (as I do).

So when is Winamp going to recognize this tag, that sits right next to the track number tag? Even better, when will I able to use it in the advanced title formatting? Right now, it's impossible to sort multi-CD sets correctly inside the Media Library.

Come on, I can't be the only one who uses this tag, especially not with iTunes out and using it completely.

That is really damn cool. I second that. Granted the only album I have that would make it matter is Pink Floyd - The Wall. it's just great to listen to both CDs straight through in order.

I may be wrong but that may be a feature of ID3v2 2.4 and Winamp uses 2.3atm I think, there was a post on which version somewhere.

No, all my tags are ID3v2.3, not 2.4, and I have the Position tag set in all my music.

I didn't even know that you could add album numbers to the ID3 tag. Only using WinAmp since getting a PC must have shortened my horizons on this. But I agree whole heartedly, it would be great to include this! I am fed up of having loads of directories with .... (Disc 1) etc!

Wait a sec. On the few times I have had to input my own cddb info while ripping with Winamp 5, there is a "Disc #" selection box. I have a few 2CDs in my collection, and I know I have used that selection field.

So.... it must just be a matter of adding the field to the "View File Info" dialog.

This is something I would find very useful, since I have several multi-disc albums. It's irritating that for such albums I can only tag & view the track #, not the disc #.

Writing ALBUM_NAME (DISC #) in the album field does solve the problem as far as differentiation, but this causes the Media Library to list each disc as a seperate album, which they are not.

I think it would be simple to add support for this field in the ID3 tag editor.
