SHOUTcast DNAS on LINUX server

I'm running my stream from my studio to a SHOUTcast server across country running on a LINUX server. As I know very little to NOTHING about LINUX, and my server operator is still learning, we had this question.

[our conversation]
======================
(*me*) triandrew2001: looks to be now... with LINUX, is there anything similar to the STARTUP folder you'd have with Windows, that that in the event of a reboot, it will automatically start certain applications? [i.e. SHOUTcast]

pridecom03907: yes, a separate folder "init.d" but if i put shoutcast in there you will have to give me the parameters to force it to run in the background... as it is, after a restart, i must enter ctl-z bg <enter>

triandrew2001: ah... I know nothing of LINUX, but I'll find out from the shoutcast folks how to do that...
======================

Any takers? MUCH MUCH THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Always, Andrew Cannon
