IE won't downlaod .zip

I installed netpumper the other day and decided I didn't like it, so I uninstalled it, ran spybot and adaware to remove all traces of anything it might have left behind, and now IE won't give me a dialog for saving .zip files. Instead it just opens a window and has an image icon in the window. Anyone have any idea on how I can fix this?

Sorry dlinkwit, I don't think anyone cares enough about IE to help you. You could try reinstalling Windows. :p

Try reinstalling IE.

IE is perfectly fine for me - it keeps things simple - I don't want crap flooding my window.

i would agree with anubis. See if you can reinstall it or download a new version etc. Since you can't uninstall it anyway, you might as well uses. I don't see what exactly is so bad about it anyway. Maybe its the newer versions that suck. I have version 5.00.something. It does what its supposed to. Nothing more, nothing less.

Should I just download the latest version off of the microsoft site, or should I uninstal it first? If so, how do I uninstal (i am at school and can't check for an uninstal right now)

ps. firefox sucks. it easts memory, won't display half the pages out there, deletes bookmarks, and it's flaming.

Just download the latest IE from the MS site, IE hasn't been uninstallable for several versions now.

Firefox displays about 99% of pages I visit as well or even BETTER than IE. For example, my school's website is designed to work in all modern browsers, yet the hover and focus css attributes for input boxes aren't applied in IE.

I've never lost a bookmark in any version of Mozilla, Firebird or Firefox, nor have I ever felt that my memory situation was detrimented by any Mozilla product. I'm not sure how to respond to your last point: Is it too gay or too hot for you to use? I'm not telling you what browser to use, that's your choice. I just don't like to see inaccurate or false information being spread. If you'd care to detail how you lost your bookmarks and/or which sites fail to work, and it can be reproduced by others, then it can be filed as a bug and possibly be fixed.

If you provide examples of pages that won't work with Firefox, they can be forwarded to a team of people that check the page to see if it's problem with Firefox being broken, or a lazy website author who only creates pages to work with a single (albeit popular) browser. Even if you don't use firefox, it's to everyone's benefit to have standards-based webpages that can be displayed in any browser. You may find one day that you need information from a certain page, and you only have access to a) a mac or unix computer b)a pda c)some other web capable device that doesn't use IE. If the website is made to only work with IE, you are not going to be happy in that case.

I was away for a while.
But I'm feeling much better now.

You guys suck ass. [edit: not Gonzo, your post wasn't there before. =)]

dlinkwit: Open up Windows Explorer, and go to Tools > Options of Folder Options or something like that, and to to the File Types tab. Scroll down to the ZIP extension, and click the Advanced tab. Check the "Confirm open after download" checkbox, and click OK a few times to get back to Windows Explorer. Now try downloading a ZIP file. Take two aspirin and call me in the morning if symptoms persist.

Asswipes.

I believe that there is a Repair option in the add/remove programs for Internet Explorer.

If this is a stock version of IE, then you may just want to get the latest IE service pack then

It displays all pages fine when they arent coded by some retard. IE displays them because its coded to guess what the author wants, whereas firefox follows standards. It has never lost my bookmarks, EVER. Hasnt eaten mem either, when you compare it to having tons of IE windows open. <3 tabs. The only pages that dont work for me in firefox are made in homestead.

But a lot of pages are coded by some retard, so where do you draw the line between the functionality of one browser and the security of the other?

I stick with IE6. If some script kiddie wants to hack me and read my lecture notes, he's welcome to. I have backups of anything important. Also, I'm sick of being told how great everything else is, when what I already have works fine.

if you reinstall XP, you have to backup anything and everything that you feel like putting back after your hard drive is wiped.

Maybe under File Types, the default program for opening ZIP files got changed to Internet Explorer for some reason. Usually the only time something like this happens is if the file is corrupt.

It's always a good idea to run a virus scan. I would also download CWShredder and run that. CoolWebSearch has been a major pain lately and CWShredder will clean your system of this hijacker/trojan.

I see no stinking sig! Do you see a stinking sig?
