DJs, Where is your radio hosted @?
Hello,
I am intrested in starting an internet radio station like everyone else is. What I want to know is where does everyone host their radio stations at? Are you using a service like live365, have your own dedicated server and bandwidth, or what? What is the most affordable way to do it? I have setup a shoutcast server and can run it easy, just need to know where to host it now. Also, can anyone tell me what a good price per live user @ 128kbps is? Or what is a good price on things in gerneral? Thanks, Kyle Leissner |

Well we of djwebpages.com have a sponsor that runs a shoutcast server at a 100 Mbit line.
if you want to run a radio for a big site i think a sponsor is a good option.. and its free |

Again, if you're buying "slots" for maximum ammount of users, rather than paying for the gigs of bandwidth you use, then you're asking to be ripped off.
Any host who isnt using this horrable billing method may or may not be antiquated, but they all know why they use this method.

I can personally recommend www.limelightnetworks.com but honestly I havn't been shopping in a while. I would have recommended www.hostgrove.com but they are out of business now (i know Steve personally). www.streamguys.com does billing this way too (i know Mike personally) but not sure how much traffic you need to get seutp cos it's not listed on the site.
First figure out how many gigs you use a month, and then call LimeLight. I can vouch that it's the best bandwidth you can buy for shoutcast hosting I've seen. They use an edge distribution network so your listeners connect to a server that's physically closest to them, with servers all over the usa, europe, asia, etc. And they dont have any crappy peers like Cogent etc. We get five nines at LimeLight without a doubt. =) If you call em let us know how it compares, I'm kind of interested in how they price low bandwidth. =) |

Well jesseg, I pay for slots because I can only spend x amount of money a month, so I dont wanna have to pay for more than i can afford. So in my opinion its not getting ripped off.
