Pictures of the day [February 24]
Hey everybody,
Once again a picture of Sahara sand, this time from another perspective: This Sattelite picture from yesterday shows a Shara desert storm that goes from the Northwest of Africa until the very western border or the Canarian Islands. The effects on the Ocean can be both positive and negative. On one hand the sediments of the sand work like a fertilizer because it contains iron which will be digested by the algae, on the other hand there can be bacteria transported with it that can attack corals. The very fine sand can be transported with the wind until America and might lead to breathing problems with sensitive people. (We don't have sand here but the weather is crazy as well...we had snow the last days but it melted down today, now in the evening it's freezing again which made all streets slippery as hell with a thin ice layer everywhere. Exactly on this day I had to restock my fridge because it was empty - alright I still had half a bottle of Ketchup and some beer - so I was walking through the slippery streets with heavy shopping bags, including a huge bag of toilet paper, trying not to fall down )This seems to be a monkey with horns but it's only a monkey in the zoo of the Hungrarian city Debrecen sitting on a goat. ![]() Mia

I've heard of the saying "there's a monkey on my back" but that takes the piss.

Tons of sand blown away into the sea. At least that beach goes on for thousands of miles until ocean! Kinda reminds me of Bugs Bunny when he made a wrong turn in Albuquerque and ends up in the Sahara.
