Music on a site

If I were to start a site and music would go good for the home page should I do it or is it lame. Just trying to get opinions. I don't really like music on a site but if it worked with what I am planning I might. Tell me what you think

do it, but give people the option of hearing it/or shuting it up.
don't hide the player but lock it at the top.
maybe include it as part of some flash
and remember the poor 56Kers like the god of technology:Atmo

Do not use Midi music unless you know loads of people who like listening to ringtones. They will appreciate midi music but nobody else does.

I'm not paranoid, they really are after you.

Don't do it.

-Many people (including me), have music playing in the background.

-Not everyone has a 3mbit connection yet.

-Not everyone likes the same music as you.

Once I start hearing a bunch of f*cking beeping I instantly click the back button and never come back. No exceptions. It's the biggest sign of an amateur webpage with little content to offer (next to blink tags and under construction signs).

This thread has helped me come to a conclusion that I am not going to put music on my site. Thanks for the opinions you can keep them coming if you wish.

great you decided that... I fucking hate when THere's Crappy, Low quality (because they dont want to use bandwidth) Music playing in the background, that fucks up whatever song you are listening to in winamp... I just tend to close it...

"Oh BTW. How do you say 'stop throwing shit at the side of my house' in spanish?"
