RealOne Player *spit*

Can somebody please tell me where I can get a Plug-In for RealOne Player *spit*. And one which I don't need RealOne Player *spit* installed to use the Plug-In. Also I could use a Plug-In for Windows Media Player *spit*. Thankyou. ***DISCLAIMER: I do not have a problem where I shoot mucous from my mouth. This only occours when being forced to use the above programs***

Heheh

Some people get so emotionally worked up about programs.
Realv10 works just fine for me, the installer is straightforward, a quick run through the prefs & it works just fine for real media files, much better than the Real plugins for Winamp. Here in Canada, CBC broadcasts the national news in high bandwidth streaming Real & the quality is awesome.

The fact is, right now its almost impossible to use only one media player, (unless you use JetAudio, Real, WinMedia, or worst of them all, Quicktime, whose files Real plays incidentally). I'll be as happy as anyone when Winamp can really play Real, WM9 & QT streams & DVDs with 5.1 but until then...just relax.

Cheers,
Rob

p.s. Taming Real: Read the installation steps carefully & cancel the registration, take a run through prefs, set it to display player only & turn off the message centre...Then go to \Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB & rem *sched... & *message...You'll find your Real starts very quickly & runs stably.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm, I used this link ("Most Requested Features/Plug-ins") and DLed the Real Alternative Plug-In. This did enable me to play RealOne Player *spit* streams (but wait for it...) through Windows Media Player *spit*. Huh!!! I hate Windows Media Player *spit* more than RealOne Player *spit*. And what is the point of using Tara's Plug-In when you need RealOne Player *spit* installed anyway???

I don't like RealOne Player *spit* for the following reasons:
- Adware
- Potential SpyWare
- Bulky as hell
- Extremely slow

I use Media Player Classic for realplayer formats.

[@imho] I had dreams about unit testing last night :-(
[@sim`a] i have nightmares about syntax errors, whats your point

@Funkyscottie
As far as playing Real formats in Winamp goes, you have two options.

1) Just install the Tara plugin,
open Winamp,
go to Prefs > File Types
Make sure all relevant extensions are checkmarked,
eg. RM, RA, RAM, RMM, RMJ, RMX, etc

Winamp will now be the default player for those formats

2) Uninstall RealOne nightmare,
install RealAlternative

a) Either use Tara plugin for all Real formats (as above)

b) Or edit tara.ini (winamp dir) and remove .ra and .rm extensions, eg.

1=RAM;RMM;RMJ;RMX;RNX;RPM;RV:Real Audio Files

And then open Winamp, go to prefs,
and add ;RA;RM to DirectShow Decoder config

and that is it

Alas, the Real Engine/Codecs MUST be installed for Real format support, because that's the way it's always been, and probably the way it'll always be... until all people/websites/stations finally boycott this crappy, lousy, stinking, limited, proprietry format once and for all.

ps. btw, I use Winamp to play ALL audio/video formats, including DVD, MOV, SWF, RM, WMA, MP4/M4A, and many many more. Never had any problems with any files whatsoever. All play just as perfectly as they would in any other player. *shrug*

Yes, yes. I have similar feelings about Real [player]. Alternative works pretty well though I do have a few problems with it as well (not nearly as many as with real Real, however).

I can't seem to get tara's plugin to work correctly with winamp when playing real media files online. I can get the video part but not the audio. I've had this problem with both Real Alt and real Real installed (not at the same time though, of course). Also real audio files lack any sound when played with Winamp.

My friend also reports the same video but no audio problem. Does anyone else experience this? AND more importantly, is there some remedy for this?

One more thing, I found that if I play a "rm" file I made myself, sound and video both work. Weird, indeed...

why not just use directshow to play them?

open preferences, go to the input plugins and click on in_dshow.dll and config. Then add ;RM:RA at the end.

Why not?? no extra pulgs!

I am beat. Two days I have done nothing but try to sort this out. Unfortunately I have admitted defeat and am going to fall back into the rut of capitalisum and carry on using these two programs. I have tried everything suggested on this forum serveral times and with no joy. I hang my head in shame and once again join the mundane norm of streaming audio... *mouth so dry I am unable to find anymore mucous to spit out*

Drewbar, Real Alternative is too much like Media Player for me - I'd rather use RealOne and that's saying something!

Real Alt is a codec. You just use Media Player Classic to play it, you can play it in any app.

Ow yeah, RP10 isn't so bad actually

I like Realplayer 10. It's improved a lot. I'll never use it as my default player but it doesn't bother me to use it for the Real formats anymore. I used to hate it, but Real is finally shaping up. I would say that I like it better that Windows Media Player even. If you haven't tried Realplayer 10, give it a go.

It does install 1 startup service but it is easily disabled. This thread is very useful and has a lot of info about Realplayer 10:

it works well, but I don't like the stuff running in the background, and some of it requires a ctrl+alt+del to get rid of. Plus, for one reason or another when i acutally tried to use RP10, i ended up with multiple instances of it running on my machine. I emailed Real.com's tech support and they assured me that such a thing was impossible. Hmm...
That's when I got totally fed up with them and started looking for a way to play through winamp, which i found...yipee! Now if i could just the the visualizations to work with it...
The closer to one media player, the better if you ask me- and with all the plugins and tricks for winamp I am getting very close to achieving that goal!

After spending 3 evenings trying to get this to work I was just about ready to give up. I went to Tara's site and downloaded the latest version and copied the above text to note pad as instructed and saved as .reg and it finally works. Even the plugins work! I have listened to RA files last night and tonight and Winamp has not crashed once I am so happy that I don't have to use Realplayer *spit* anymore!
